Re: [Drivers] HP dv6 Gen 3 / dv7 Gen 4 / Select Edition / ENVY 17 (INTEL)
For intel graphics update it says "Do not install this if you have an ATI graphics card or an NVIDIA graphics card!" and likewise for ati graphics card but what if you have the switable graphics system with both cards? You can't install either?

The ATI driver posted here, comes with the Intel set if you haven't installed.
Just to simplify graphic driver installs.

Re: [Drivers] HP dv6 Gen 3 / dv7 Gen 4 / Select Edition / ENVY 17 (INTEL)
Here's a question--that ATI Radeon driver for the switchable graphics machines is from May or something, but when I go searching for a driver on HP's site it points me to one from February. My machine is a dv6t-SE that I just took delivery of 3 days ago. I suppose I should check which version I currently have installed--how would I do that?

You can check the ATI graphics driver version by launching the Device Manager in the Control Panel. Under the Display adapters, double-click on the ATI device and select the Driver tab.
You can alternatively check the ATI Catalyst Control Center for the driver version. The easiest way is to right-click anywhere on the desktop, and select the Catalyst Control Center to open it.Pavilion dv6-7014nr (modified) / TouchPad 32GB

Re: [Drivers] HP dv6 Gen 3 / dv7 Gen 4 / Select Edition / ENVY 17 (INTEL)
Thanks for the response, justinkw1. Is there a set of instructions on how to update the graphics drivers properly on these HP notebooks? I'm new to the whole ATI thing, having been an nvidia man since Voodoo went out of business, and this is my first laptop to boot. On my desktop I usually just run the reference exe from nvidia without uninstalling, but I gather it's a bit more involved with ATI cards.

It is pretty much the same with ATI cards, unfortunately, you have to rely on HP to update the ATI drivers. The reference drivers from ATI give varied results
on the dv6t.

Re: [Drivers] HP dv6 Gen 3 / dv7 Gen 4 / Select Edition / ENVY 17 (INTEL)
The reason I asked about the procedure for updating is that in the first post of this thread it strongly recommends uninstalling the old drivers. If I just "update driver" through the device manager and point Windows to the appropriate unzipped folder (with the drivers indicated above in the first post), should that work OK?
