Please note that due to the number of driver threads that need to be managed as well as the lack of support HP now provides for these notebooks, updating this thread is going to be less of a priority. However, updates for this particular thread will still occur if something very important is released.

Based on dannyres's thread and my other driver threads, I've decided to post the latest drivers that are compatible with the following notebooks using an Intel processor below. It is part of my ongoing, informal commitment to help assist those who had performed clean installs on their HP notebooks. Please let me know if you find newer drivers or other devices so I can update this post!

Compatible notebook products ("x" denotes a numeric digit):

NOTE: All of these drivers come from HP's website, Microsoft Update, and from other reputable websites (including other manufacturers). All of the drivers here are WHQL Certified or digitally signed drivers, available as of the date when this post was updated. These drivers should be compatible with the notebook series stated above, but I am not responsible for technical difficulties that can occur as a result of improper driver installation!

Following along the same lines as the other driver threads, the process of installing and updating drivers is for ADVANCED/EXPERIENCED users only. Average users can use the drivers located at the HP support portals -- they're the safest and simplest way to go in terms of drivers for your specific model. Some of these drivers may work with notebooks other than the stated brand and models, but this is NOT guaranteed. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK -- only install these drivers if you know how to revert the changes that you have made should any problems be encountered.


Intel Chipset Device Software

Important Information
To ensure that all device drivers are updated, simply execute the downloaded setup file using the -overall parameter. Example: If you saved the downloaded file as infinst911autol.exe to the root directory of C: drive, you can launch the Run command (Windows key + R) and insert "C:\infinst911autol.exe -overall" in the Open field (without the quotes). Press OK to begin the interactive installation process. Starting with Intel Chipset Device Software package version 9.2.0.1016, the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver may become overwritten with the driver that exists in the package if it is installed. Should such an instance occur, reinstall the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver afterwards.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology (SATA AHCI)

Important Information
Intel Rapid Storage Technology is the new name that replaces the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. It is highly recommended that you install this even if RAID is not configured on your system. See Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) - Product overview for more information. If you are having problems with the Interactive Setup wizard, use the INF Install method instead. This allows the driver to be installed using the Device Manager - Update Driver wizard. Once the driver is installed, you can try the Interactive Setup wizard again to ensure that the software is correctly installed.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4550

Important Information
Do not install this if you have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator or an NVIDIA graphics card! It is strongly recommended that you remove all previous versions of the ATI graphics driver before installing the newest version. There may be newer versions of this driver available however none of them specifically support the ATI Mobility Radeon cards built into these notebooks. This is the most compatible driver currently available. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator / Intel HD Graphics

Do not install this if your notebook contains an ATI/AMD graphics card or NVIDIA graphics card! It is strongly recommended that you remove all previous versions of the Intel graphics driver prior to installing the newest version. Important Information
This driver is equivalently known as HP ProtectSmart for consumer notebooks and HP 3D DriveGuard for business notebooks. Drivers provided by the Microsoft Update Catalog must be installed using the Device Manager - Update Driver wizard. These releases do not include the additional software or control panel. Make sure you have the Intel Matrix Storage Manager or Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed first before you install this.

BIOS

Important Information
The BIOS images released must be flashed in a Windows environment. Only use the BIOS release that is applicable to your particular notebook model. Do NOT attempt to flash a BIOS image that is not supported or designated for your model. Doing so will render your system unusable! Be sure to carefully read the guidelines displayed by the BIOS update utility to ensure a successful flash.

Good Work! A DV4t drivers page in a welcome addition. Just wondering though about the BIOS F.30. I know that F.30 is the one that's "currently" posted at HP but they've also posted up a F.40 and a F.42. The newer BIOS posts at HP were posted... removed....re-posted.... and now have been removed and replaced with F.30 again (a second time). So what's up with that ??

I'm currently running F.42 on a CTO DV4t and it works perfectly... any thoughts.

What is the Softpaq number to this BIOS version? I'll try to see if I can find it.

I only have BIOS F.34 & F.42 saved to disk. The release notes for F.42 are:

- Adds support for Windows Vista Operating Systems with Service Pack 2.
- Adds support for future Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
- Updates the Intel Memory Reference Code to version 2.7.

I wish when they pulled stunts like posting a BIOS for all to download and then pull it within a couple of days, they’d at least let folks know why . ….and they’ve actually done this twice with this BIOS. Not so good.

Nice post justinkw1, if you are going to include the CQ45, which isn't that popular, you might want to consider the CQ40 (intel) too.

Dave, I read version F.34 was taken down by HP USA because of bugs causing 'black screens', whether that meant generally bad flashes or video problems I don't know, nor could I confirm the source. If it's taken down then I guess that can be taken as a bad sign but I would think for those that successfully flashed they should be okay otherwise you'd expect HP to issue some sort of warning / reflash advise. If you have F.42 and an eSata drive, can you check if it's selectable as a bootable drive in the BIOS. It use to be but the option seemed to be removed when F.22 came out.

I have dv4 1242tx and there is problem with fan noise. When i charge the laptop the fan spins at full speed even when i am not doing high cpu activity for long period of time creating noise. Also I disabled fan always enabled option in bois F.30 even then it creates noise. Laptop is working fine no issues but this annoying fan noise is killing me...Any body can guide me or is this issue of dv4. I also went to HP service center but they say it normally for fan to speedup during charging.

0.0…I’m not absolutely positive, but I seem to remember there was an issue with F.24 and bad BIOS flashes…. as opposed to F.34. The reason I say that is because when our unit was delivered during the holidays last year it came with F.24 and F.22 was the current post at HP and what most folks had installed. A couple of weeks later, F.24 was posted and some users had problems with the flash and bricked their new units. Perhaps F.34 also had problems too though?

Anyway, when F.30 was initially put up it was also taken down within a few days. It was then put up again. F.42 seems to run fine. The unit runs very cool with the fan set to always on in the BIOS, there is only a 3 or 4 sec. fan whirl-up at BOOT and then it’s quiet, and everything is working as advertised. Therefore, I think there’s probably no reason to go back and sooner or later F.4x will likely show up anyway.

If Justin or anyone wants to post the F.42 somewhere, let me know and I’ll send it along. If not…. that’s OK too… I understand…. beta BIOS perhaps? F.42 also has no specific option to BOOT from eSATA unless the device needs to be attached for detection. If that’s the case, I can’t check it for you because I don’t own an external eSATA drive. (yet)

I am seriously considering about extending the list to include the Intel-based CQ40 series. Virtually everything is similar in terms of components -- even the BIOS is the same! I will have to modify the post slightly however to include it, although that will be quick to do.

As of right now, I think the F.30 BIOS will stay on the original post. However, if you do want to post the F.42 BIOS somewhere, you can post a link to those who may want it (I might mention your to-be post in the original post since it is technically not from the official source, but is still relevant).

Now, another question I would like to ask everyone: should I post the HP QuickPlay/DVD Play link? I realized Compaq owners don't use MediaSmart, but rather use HP DVD Play instead.
