my screen has gone black

my hp laptop had been in my bag all morning and afternoon. In the evening i turn it on and my screen wouldn't start, i then connected it to my tv with an hdmi cable and it worked.i then restarted it so many times but still the screen won't start. I check the hdd and ram and everything seems to be in place. Please help.
My laptop is hp dv6 6090us. Thank u

I have had 2 hp's intermittently do this. Sometimes it does not detect that the lid is open and will not turn on the display. Try opening and shutting it a few times. If that doesn't work, probably something wrong with the display, cable, or mobo.
