I figured i would ask this in the HP forum being that its between 2 hp laptops.
I can get a hp envy 14 beats edition (2nd gen) refurb for ~$650 or
a Dv4t 3rd gen intel i5 with 650m for ~$720
the envy i would want to get 3yrs out of it and the dv4t 4 years
I like the build quality of the envy alot, i know the processors don't differ that much (don't want a quad, i want battery life). I am almost positive that the envy casing will hold up that long, and idk about the dv4t with the plastic housing.
I want to be able to play worldoftanks (higher clockspeed cpu more important), Ruse, total war titles, league of legends, source titles. I would like to play them and their future releases/updates at around medium. can either or both do this you think?
other than that i want it to get 4-6 hrs battery life which i think both can do, and be portable enough to take to class, and do a bit of gaming on the go.
Also has anyone got a laptop from hp outlet? what is the warranty? or did you have any problems with it?
Which would be better for me? thanks for any input!
I guess the question with the Envy 14 Beats Edition is whether the refurb involves replacing the case. Generally not, so seeing as it's a 1.5-year old laptop (I believe) it's going to have some wear on it already. How much wear is unknown. I don't know if they even provide a fresh battery. Personally I'd go with the dv4t in this case, it's got better graphics and you're getting the latest processor technology so in four years it'll still be fine for playing games. Plus you know exactly what condition it will be in and can take care of it so it lasts 4-years.
HP Outlet doesn't have as much of a reputation as the Dell Outlet, I don't know why, they just don't seem to manage it quite as well. That's not from experience though, never bought one from there myself, just based on what I've read/heard.
thanks alot, I mean the dv4t can get the 650m for $710 config (with coupons) but its just the build quality that buggs me, i mean its thick and glossy plastic ick. can anyone point me to a review of the dv4t? or is there something else i should be considering.
Bestbuy is currently selling new envy 14 2166se. These are the beats edition. I assume they were leftovers from hp and then just passed them off the bestbuy to get them sold. I picked one up last week for $750. I'm very pleased with it so far. I haven't had the chance to do much gaming with it yet, but I did load up half life 2 lost coast and it ran great with all settings on high. This is the model with the 6630m gpu. So if you are wanting the (2xxx) series envy 14, but don't want a refurbished one, this might be a good route to go. Good luck.
