Re: HP: A falling brand
me and my family have spent probably $5000 in hp products over the past 5 years. all of them died from overheating/mobo related issues except for our laserjet printer which is still going strong. i don't have any experience with elitebooks, i'm sure they are better quality, but just based on past bad experiences with their consumer division, i'd rather just spend my money on a thinkpad.
also thinkpads with an education discount are much better priced then elitebooks. right now, you can get a well equipped T420 with a 1600x900 screen for just $750.Thinkpad L520 | Intel Core i3-2310M | 15.6” HD+ (1600 X 900) LED | 128GB MyDigitalSSD mSATA SSD | 8 gb DDR3 Ram

Re: HP: A falling brand
Now that reasoning I can understand. Dismissing HP's business-class offerings based on "past bad experiences with their consumer division", though, seems a bit rash, because those experiences simply do not apply to EliteBooks. Too many people out there already who have only used Pavilions or Presarios and conclude that "HP sucks" without even thinking about giving their top-quality products a try.

Re: HP: A falling brand
...Last week I removed the hard drive from an X220 replacing it with a Crucial M4 hard drive. Now I´m in the line for a DOA replacement as the connector failed to notice any hard drive. In the last few months I´ve replaced the drives on a HP 5330m, 8460p, 2560p and a 6360b... no problem.
Again... you pay your money and role the dice. Elitebooks are fantastic but so are X220 machines.

Re: HP: A falling brand
before telling me whats reasonable and unreasonable, i dare you to spend upwards of $5000 of products from one company and have every single one of them fail with little help or sympathy from customer support, including the case managers. then tell me if you still want to do business with them.
as i said, im sure the elitebooks are good, but personally i am done with HP.Thinkpad L520 | Intel Core i3-2310M | 15.6” HD+ (1600 X 900) LED | 128GB MyDigitalSSD mSATA SSD | 8 gb DDR3 Ram

Re: HP: A falling brand
Let me ask you this, then: supposing you had similar bad experiences with Lenovo's IdeaPad or Essential laptops, would you say you're done with Lenovo and never give ThinkPads a try? Or the same thing with Dell - after bad experiences with Inspirons/Vostros, would you completely dismiss Latitudes and Precisions?

Most business-grade products (this case laptops) are way better in terms of durability and built quality. I'm getting a ThinkPad in a few months too. I recommend you to go for ThinkPad , they are well known for the quality and business look

Re: HP: A falling brand
I have both the HP Probook 4530s and the lenovo thinkpad sl510. Obviously the probook is newer and better spec'd, although the lenovo is still holding up strong compared to when I got it. If you can get similarly priced configurations from both hp and lenovo I would probably chose lenovo. However treat your electronics with care and they will last. I have never had a computer die after less then 5 years. Treat them like a child and they will last more then 4 years.
