Default Avoid the evil PayPal for HP purchase. Here's my experience:

Well this is just a rant from an unsatisfied paypal customer, just sharing with you my experience. On Jan 14th I ordered an hp envy 14 for 1200.00 using paypal to pay(my bank doesn't allow debit transactions more thank $1000.00 unless you call and inform them and they were closed.) but then, I realized there was a $500.00 off coupon I could utilize to save me a-lot of money, so that day I called and canceled my order. I had enough funds to order another one and in the meanwhile Hp sent me a refund about 2 days later, and I got an email from pay pal informing me of it. Since then the funds have been removed from my bank account yet PayPal put a hold on the refund, I called demanding why and the representative informed me the hold would be lifted by Jan-20, and long behold its still on there. After I get my refund placed into my bank I am closing my pay pal account. Right now I have an empty bank account because pay pal decided to hold my money, and I am going to miss 2 college assignments because the money isn't there for me to go buy my book. Thanks alot PayPal!

sorry to hear what they've done. Paypal love holding money and restricting access to accounts whilst they reap the benefits of the interest. I avoid paypal wherever possible.

    hope you get it sorted

Did you have an option to use a credit card for this transaction? Always do that (even in Paypal switch funding source from bank to credit card whenever possible). Not only you earn rewards from creditcard (if you don't -- you should look into this), but should the merchant decide to screw you, you can always file chargeback! Using Paypal (over straight credit card) only makes sense if you're shopping with a merchant whom you're not trusting with your credit card information.

I agree, I actually don't have a credit card though, it was basically my only option. I'm actually in college and not working right now so a credit card is kind of out of the question atm. P.S. my money still isn't in my bank account *sigh*

If you're 18, you should get a credit card. Start building a credit history now. if cannot get your own, ask for a joint one with one of the parents. Few years down the road you'll be glad you did (just don't use it as a source of cash -- spend only as much as you can afford or less and a credit card will be your friend)

Couldn't have given the money to your folks and have them purchase it?
