Default HP 8540w and others are nearly here

Yep the new line form the 8530w and so on are more less here.
I guess the focal point around the unit is the graphics card at the moment because we no what it will have besides the GPU.

The two choices will be the quadro fx 880m 1GB DDR3 or the the quadro fx 1800m which will be boasting 1GB GDDR5.

    respectively the 8440p will have NVS 3100 512mb GDDR3
The 8440w will have the quadro fx 380m 512mb GDDR3

8540p will have NVS 5100. not stated the memory etc so i assume again 512mb and GDDR3

    my guess is:

    NVS 3100m= 9500m G
    QFX 380m= 310m
    NVS 5100m= 9600m GT/130m GT
    QFX 880m= 230m GT/240m GT/330m GT
    QFX 1800m= QFX 2700m/9700m GTS

Theses predictions are not based on the actual spec of the card but the performances comparable to.

    So far performances equal:
    QFX 380m = 3D 06 score just above 9500m G (same resolution) Dated 15/1/2010
    NVS 5100m = 3D 06 score just 300 above the GT 130m (same resolution) dated 23/1/2010

source is from the hp website. i had to check it out from the usa site as they get stuff 1st.
i did look out for the 8740w. theres nothing yet but no doubt that will come with the quadro 3800m 1gb in gddr3 and ill assume they may use the gddr5 but no mention of it. im not sure of the alternative they will use as they usually do. if its ati then it could be the ati firepro m7740 respectively.

the 8440w with the high res 14" screen looks quite appealing

if anyone is looking for a bargain I've seen many 8530w's and Lenovo W500's going for <800-900 bucks on ebay (new)

The lack of an ATI option is disappointing. While the nvidia's were faster for this current gen (Quadro FX vs. 3650/V5700), the ATI 5xxx series seems to be pretty awesome. I also wish they kept the 16:10 but I guess it was inevitable.

Thanks sisqo, I expect the same. Note that the 8740w will be a direct competitor of the Dell Precision M6500 (as the 8730w was of the M6400), and it's desireable that the 8740w will have the Quadro FX3800M, the DreamColor display as the 8730w and SSD options too (missing in the 8730w As far as I know).

yea i agree to the posts with the 8740w and the comment to the 5xxx series in the notebook. id love a 5 series but i think all the big 3 hp, lenovo and dell are using nvidia on there refresh. in the 14" and 15.6" models.

If i had still only had my 8510w or T61p and never purchased my 8530w forcing me to sell both then i think id prob select the the 8540w or W510 for the quadro FX 880m. but it dont think the gpu increase is that much for me to just dump my notebook after a year.

unless i could get the 8540w with the 1800m and i7 core then if i can afford it at the time im sold cos i can make prob the same cash i paid for this. lol i might even keep the drive when selling it and replace it with the new one cos i aint splashing for a bluray burner in that lol.

Still got my trusty 8510w, so the 8540w will be a major consideration for me.
Especially if it has the same port for my docking station.

So, the 8540w 880 and 1800 are both better than the 4550 in the 6540?

By what margin? And.. does anyone have any remote idea of what HP would make pricing of that unit?

The entire difference between the 8540w and 6540 is video card and usb 3.0, yes? And NO resolution options on the 8540w?

    Thanks

What model exactly is the 6540? The FX 880M and FX 1800M are massively better in pretty much all respects than the HD 4550. The 4550 is 64-bit GDDR3, the 880 is 128-bit GDDR3, and the 1800 is 128-bit GDDR5. Also, the latter two are even better in CAD and other optimized programs, since they are workstation cards. The 8540W has resolution options, up to 1920x1080.
