the chassis is different in appearance from what I can tell. As for the video cards, I would not say they're a good comparison since the 1800M in the 8540w will be using GDDR5 ram which will out perform much anything GDDR3 does and the 1800M is OpenGL 3.2 compliant while the other is only 2.1 compliant. Seems like there isn't much to compare it to right now but if past performance is any indicator, it will hold its own whether using it for CAD or playing a top tier video game.

    Not going to happen.

That would be a surprising change from previous generation Elitebooks.

As for upgrading your notebook's GPU, it's not as simple as plug and play. Aside from the differences in sockets, there's also the issue of whether your BIOS will recognize the card, or whether or not your laptop can support the heat generated. For the cost of the GTX280M, you'd be better off buying a GTX 280m equipped machine in the first place.

Its not like there are desirable notebooks WITH the 280M ... and plus, I want a number pad in a 15.6" with USB 3.0, an i7, and a GOOD keyboard. Apparently I have to get raped to have that combination. Eh... they know what I want.

Any idea why the Canadian website would show a 2/1 release date, while the US site still just says "Coming Soon"? Would HP really take orders in Canada before the US?

I'm barely surviving on a HP tc4200 that's getting slower and slower! I need power!
