questions about the HP HDX 18t
i am currently in the market for a new laptop and i have been looking at the HP HDX18t. i need a laptop for entertainment, as well as college work. i have a few questions that i need answered since i haven't been keeping up on the latest video cards and such... i have this in my cart and ready to order for 2,700 dollars with s&h/tax.
-how long will the battery last per charge?
-i haven't heard too many positive things about the 130m, so is it easy to "upgrade" this card at say, bestbuy? i wanna play FPS mostly, like COD5 on max settings.. maybe crysis, but from what i heard not many laptops can run that game on max settings.
-is 2,700 a good price for everything included in this package, or is there something "better" i could buy? if so, what do you reccomend?
the reason i want the HDX is because HP has a 30% off coupon on customized laptops right now and if i were to buy a different cpu with these type of settings i'm looking at 3-4k. anyways, here are the specs:
– Upgrade to Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
– Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Processor QX9300 (2.53Hz)
– $100 OFF!! 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - For 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M

– 18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
– Blu-Ray +/-R/RW with SuperMulti
– Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
– Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
– 50% OFF!! HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
– Full Size Backlit Keyboard

Re: questions about the HP HDX 18t
I have the hdx16 which is same but smaller. Keep in mind that the hdx18 is huge if you are considering to carry it from class to class.
The 130M is 7 levels better than the 9600m says this website. Although it may not run every game at highest settings, its a decent card IMO. Look to the right under class 2 gpus.

You cannot upgrade the graphics card since it is soldered to the motherboard. Therefore, if you think you need a better one later, I'd suggest you go ahead and get it.
I think that is a good price considering you've maxed out the specs.Toshiba Satellite • Vista Home Premium • Intel Dual Core Pentium T3400 (2.16GHz) • 2Gb Ram • 15.4 Display • 120Gb HD
HDX16t • Vista Ultimate 64 • Intel Core 2 Duo T9800 (2.93GHz) • 8Gb Ram • Infinity Display (1920x1080p) • 1GB GeForce GT130M • 320Gb HD 7200rpm • Blu-Ray ROM w/ DVD+/-R/RW • HDTV Tuner • Backlit Keyboard • 6 & 12 Cell Batteries

Re: questions about the HP HDX 18t
The 9800 GS which is the same as a GTS except it runs at a lower voltage and clock speed when flashed with a GTS bios and running benchmark proven DOX drivers only managed 30 FPS @ 1680x1050 in Crysis with the minimum falling below 24 which = choppy.
and its a better card then the 130M. (If ur looking its towards the middle of Class 1)Formerly known as ClutchX2

Re: questions about the HP HDX 18t
yeah.. my old laptop is a vaio k27... haha, so i'm not worried about lugging it around from class-to-class... and if it becomes too much work, i could always buy a piece of luggage/back to haul my stuff around. right now i just use a little messanger bag...
back to the hardware, is there any laptop that you suggest that has a better video card but with similar specs and price? i can't find anything in terms of notebooks on hp's site with a better video card... but, my main concern is how much better would the "better" video card be on the other laptop? if the graphics are just a negligable amount "better" than the 130m, i would rather get the HDX18t with all the other specs maxed out...
i want a laptop with a high-resolution and that i can play pretty much any game on. when i bought my last laptop, i bought tribes2 and the screen would always lag and the video quality was very poor.. i don't wanna go through that again - especially because the k27 was 1800.. so do you have any suggestions?

Wow, I didn't know Crysis was that intense. I've heard good things about the Toshiba Qosmio series. You can get it with 2 GPUs.

Re: questions about the HP HDX 18t
Well you can turn the settings down and/or run it in 720P. But ive seen 2 shots from Korea that where matched with the same 2 shots in the game and you almost cant tell the fckn difference. But thats at the max settings at a low res as well.
Crysis can be a killer but the 9800 GS should handle it at my laptops native 1366x768 resolution. Im afraid the 130M probably cant do it as well even at that res. That said this card is gonna PWN my last gen games that i played at 640x480 on my 6100 Go LOL.
EDIT - I should say that bench on the G50 was Crysis Warhead not the original but shouldnt be far off.Formerly known as ClutchX2
