    Default Spilled Drink on Touchpad

Alright, try two... My friend spilled a mixed drink the other night on my touchpad, and now it's acting crazy. The left click key was stuck for a while, and after hitting it hard a few times, I freed it up. Problem now though is that it's acting like a right click when I hit it, and it'll randomly activate. It took me two tries to write this post since the right click activated and took me back a page... The actual right click key is fine, it's just the left that's doing this. What I'm wondering is, is there anything I can use to clean underneath the keys, or will I have to take it apart? If so, does anyone have a guide on how to take out the touchpad, or at least pop off the mouse keys? I tried a little bit of prying, but there was no give so I didn't want to force it off and end up worse off. Thanks for the help in advance

Sorry, wasn't thinking straight, it's a DV6000T. I found some instructions on how to disassemble the keyboard, but nothing on the touchpad or it's keys...

Ugh, that's gonna suck. DEFINITELY DO NOT PRY THEM OFF. Their connectors are just like the ones under each key, and if you do, they WILL break no matter how careful you are.....trust me, I did it to my dv2000 (same buttons)You'd probably have to take the whole palm rest off to do it safely without any chance of breakage.

Yeah, after some more searching, I found out that really the only way to get to the touchpad is to disassemble pretty much the entire laptop to take off the top. Does anyone know of anything I could possibly use to clean or dissolve the drink from underneath the keys? Would rubbing alcohol, or maybe even WD-40 work?

I wouldn't risk it. Underneath there's a rubber plunger that gives it the springy action, and under that, probably the motherboard. If you put more liquid into there, who knows what'd happen.

After a football knocked over my dell causing cracks in the corner of the screen I started hiding my laptops when either me and my buddies start drinking or when I watch the Vols play (particularly this year)... Good luck.

So I just lost the right button now... I can still move the cursor with the touchpad, but for some reason I can't double tap it to click, so I have to use an external mouse. This just isn't convenient since I use the laptop on the go quite often. Does anyone know of any good online shops that sell replacement parts? It'd be great to find just the touchpad, but I'm pretty sure you have to buy the entire top cover piece...

You need to take it apart and clean it. There is gunk underneath and no amount of pressing is going to get rid of it. When you get it apart, get some electrical contact spray cleaner (Radio Shack, Frys's) and clean with that (obviously without any power going to it). It evaporates fast but run a fan over it for 15 minutes just to be safe.

The Services Media Library should come in handy for disassembling your notebook:

HP Pavilion dv6000 (Intel) Notebook PC series - FRU Remove/Replace

The link will give you step-by-step instructions on how to disassemble, remove, and replace parts on your notebook.
