A problem you both may be having is that if you have windows set to hide file extensions then you wont actually be renaming the file properly.. you'll just be renaming it to 36xx.BIN.FD which will NOT work.
I'm shore I made the rename correctly.
But you're right! In windows it couldn't change the extension, but I've made it in TotalCommander. It certanly changed the extension.

    I'll just keep on trying

Hey all. Just wanted to pass on some info. My laptop is a HP DV7-1270us revison 30F4. There's a new update on the website that will brick you laptop, it did mine. Thank the fine folks here, I finally got it unbricked.

Follow the instrctions has posted earlier, win+B etc. but you'll need to get the origianal bios, F.21. Extract it, rename 30F4F210.FD to 30F3.BIN and flash. I was surprised it worked and happy about that.

Next, get back in to windows and used the new update, F.2C, extract it and rename 30F3F2C.FD to somehing else. I used 30F3F2C.FD.OLD. Run the flash s/w. I used the 64bit version cause I'm running Win 7 64bit Ult.

Make sure the ID's match, in my case the my ID's are 30F4.
For some reason it showed 30F4 and 30F3 the first time i flashed thus the brick.

I hope this helps whoever, nowhere on the net is this mentioned other than here and nobody here mentions the dv7 so here's more data for all the other HP's that have been bricked because of careless software....

    Thanks all!!!

my HP DV3T-2000 CTO got the same issue. I flashed wrong version (F.21 while old version is F.07). I downloaded wrong SoftPad file on HP website. I tried to do as instruction in these posts of topic. But when the led turn on. It has no activity seems that the USB stick is being read. Anyone can help me?

PS: I use Windows + B key combination to turn on BIOS Recovery mode.
    Thank you.

    Hi,

Just thought I'd thank you guys for providing such a good fix! I have a HP DV51009ea laptop which had a corrupted BIOS due to HP's ironic HP Health Care service.

I managed to fix mine by following the advice. I got the latest HP BIOS download (file name sp40066.exe) unpacked it and changed the names of the two .fd files in there from 3602F21.fd and 3603F21.fd to 3602.bin and 3603.bin as per the advice here. Notice I only changed the F21.fd part

I then followed the method on the first page and it worked! It took a little longer than stated (around 2mins) but it turned off and then I was able to use it again!

Thanks again, you've probably saved me the best part of £1000 as I was about to order a new MacBook Pro!

    Hello loz1234,

I can't believe that it worked for you!!!
I'm haveing the same problem with my DV5-1178er and I tried lots of methods, but I gave up because I saw that nobody replied with a dv5. I tought that it's not working on dv5, but now I'm confused. Could you explain me step by step please... I'm understanding the method, but what kind of USB pen drive did you use? how was it formatted? Did your laptop gave any kind of beep codes or something (maybe light blinking codes)? What was it doing when you turned it on before reparing it? It did something unusual when flashing from USB? During the whole process you saw USB pen drive activity? or just at the start? which USB port did you use?

I'm about to order a new motherboard on HP client service advice. But I'm sure that the mobo is ok. It's just the BIOS.

    Could you help me please?

    Hello everybody,
I have a very similar situation only I'm not very sure about the term bricked. I had a very recent HP health update and it contained a BIOS update. After the updates were installed and I rebooted the system.. it turned on to be Extremely slow. (alt+ctrl+del gives me an error msg) I thought I got a Virus. After days and days of trying to figure out whats wrong with my notebook I landed on this website to find many have this problem in common.

I tried the thumb trick with the latest BIOS F.21 (unwise of me) which resulted in making my notebook's case worse and not work at all except for the LED lights; the screen is dead completely. My second try was to download F.16 and try again..which worked! Thanks to you. However, I'm back to square one again. Vista is up , screen is Okay, But everything is extremely slow. It was Flawless right before the Update. Now, I cant open two things at once..it looked like I had very little RAM. Which i also tried to check and found out that its 256mb while i have 4 gigs of ram in this system. What happened here!? Please help.

    Notebook: Hp Pavilion dv5
    Model # : dv5t-1100
    p/n: KQ574AV
Board number according to system information is 3603

Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I have the same problem with a brand new pavilion dv8. I tried to flash the bios in windows7 and the windows crashed. Now when I turn the laptop on I get a massage that the cooling fan (902) is not working and the laptop shuts down...

I am trying to reflash the bios using the recovery method (and i thank you for sharing the info) but it seems that I can not get the name of the bios file correctly. I do not know what my original bios name is but the file name is 7001F05.bin when I unpack the winflash app... I tried 7001.bin 7001.fd 7001f.bin, 7001f05.bin 6900-7020.bin and .fd. but with no luck. The plaform.ini file has this in it
    [Platform_Check]
    flag=2
    PlatformName=7001
    PlatformName2=
    PlatformName3=
    PlatformName4=

I am now kind of lost of what I should do....Any one have any suggestion?
    Can someone help?

Funny part is that I didnt get to enjoy the laptop...1 hour after I got it (and waited 2 weeks for it to arrive)
