Recovery partition not working on dv6000!
I am trying to format my bro's dv6000 but pressing F11 at POST does not do anything.

I used this recovery partition before without any problems but this time around it's not doing anything. Yes, the partition is there and is about 6GB but pressing F11 does not work. BTW, the computer came with XP and he installed Vista over it without a format. And he can't find the CDs that came with the laptop either.
What should I do?

Re: Recovery partition not working on dv6000!
Well, I searched the Internet a bit and found out how to use the Recovery Partition without pressing F11 at POST and/or using the HP Recovery software.

Here it is:
Start ---> Run ---> type "compmgmt.msc" ---> Disk Management ---> right-click on your Recovery Partition and select "Mark Partition as Active" ---> Restart.
During the restart don't press anything and the computer will automatically boot-up into the Recovery Partition.

Re: Recovery partition not working on dv6000!
i neeeeed help bad!! .... I followed the make partition active steps... i went 2 it, activated the recovery partition and it loaded when i rebooted... I went out for a few hours and it had froze.... i restarted the comp and get MBR errors.... now the recovery partition isnt booting up again and its still set as my primary drive....
is there a way to reverse this my gf went on vaca and the easy task of restoring her comp which i do all the time has become rather complicated..... she gonna kill me when she gets back and its not fixed...

Have you press F11 repeatedly during boot up?
The HP_RECOVERY partition always set up in primary, but not always in active though.
