    Default HDD upgrade during warranty

    Has anybody conntacted HP regarding upgrade of HDD during warranty? Does it void it?? Im especially interested in business series.
    SONY VAIO VPC SA 2450M, 4GB (4GB on it's way), 500GB 5400RPM HDD (128GB M4 swap this weekend), AMD 6630 1GB

    8510p Mobile Workstation [8510w mod] CD2 T7300 2GHz, 4GB RAM, Hitachi 200GB 7K200, ATi HD2600 DDR3 / ATi FireGL V5600
    HD2600 running stable at 640 core, 780 mem

    No RAM and hard drive upgrades are usually ok since they are often user replaceable with easy access. changing a CPU is different and requires opening the laptop up which would void your warranty.

    No, it won't void warranty unless you physically brake the HDD connector or board parts replacing your HDD.

    i e-mailed hp about ram upgrade..they said they need original hp config before you can be "supported"

    If you need them to service it, they want you to put the original HDD back in.

    To save their techs the hassle of looking up all different kinds of drives/RAM. To be able to write the service manuals for specific parts.

    What!! This is the most stupid thing Ive ever heard!! This must be a joke! Oh well, seems like no upgrade for 3 years...

    It doesn't void the warranty to change stuff up, just make sure to change it back before sending it to service. A company can't be responsible for their customers messing around with their computers and then saying something isn't working, thus they make this rule to at least make sure that it's the hardware that they provided you with that isn't working, not some other junk you decided to put on your machine.
