Ok I'm somewhat disappointed since it lists WXGA screens as an option, but all they have are pre-config models with WSXGA.

    Well, WSXGA+ are better in terms of quality than WXGA;
and there is no difference between WSXGA+ and WSXGA+ anti-glare with wide viewing angles. Just two different names for the same panel.

True, but I prefer the lower resolution.

If there is no difference, then why in the world do they write it for 2 configurations, and the others just say WSXGA+? I am just a bit confused here. If it is the same, as you say, then why write it for some and not others?

Does anybody know if they give student discounts for business line notebooks from hp? I know lenovo does it..but cannot seem to do it with HP...perhaps if you call them and state you are a student the will give a discount?

According to the stickied thread, HP only offers discounts to home and home office lines, not business. If you call you may get a better outcome though.

Awesome. For $1480, HP pretty much nailed a pretty good MSRP for this notebook. Now all we need to do is wait for resellers to sell it below that.

My T61p build is as follows...

    C2D T7500 (2.2)
512MB Ram [Will upgrade to 4GB myself]
    80gb 5.4k [will upgrade to Hitachi 7K200]
Vista Home Basic [I get an Ultimate license through school]
    Atheros ABG Wireless
    CD/DVD-RW
    9 Cell

Total for that came to 1284.00, add in 2 year thinkpad protection plus tax and the total was 1445.00 I'll be getting about 50.00 back from fatwallet, and an additional 100.00 back for tailormade.

End cost after I get all my money back, and I upgrade both the hard drive and ram will be about 1725.00. Not bad for what is basically a top of the line machine. Unfortunately the HP prices don't even come close.

Do you have to buy anything from fatwallet, and tailormade to get lenovo discounts? How exactly does one use these websites to get moneyback, and what exactly are you signing up for when doing this?

Tailormade is a discoutn provided directly by American Express. You have to sign up for the tailormade program. To get the fatwallet discount you have to register and then click through a link to get to the lenovo website.

There aren't any tricks or catches in either program that I know of.

Wow I'm really surprised at the price...I figured the base config would be $1599.

Makes me kind of sad that I already gave up on waiting and got a Latitude D830...especially since the quadro nvs 140m has been annoying me to no end with its drivers. and inability to decode h264 in windows xp (although I don't know if the hd 2600 can do that either).

Although, since that's the only aspect that I have issues with (believe it or not, but I kind of like the screen on my D830, despite some light leakage at the bottom), I guess I shouldn't brood too much over missing out on the 8510p...and I did save a little bit of money with that path (although not as much as I thought I would have).

Oh, and I heard somebody managed to get a student discount by ordering over the phone...I forget who it was, though.
