Default RAM limitations on an older Compaq Armada m700

    Greetings,
I have an older Compaq Armada m-700 that I am in the process of reviving. The specs say 256 Mb, 144 pin pc100 SDRAM per slot, two slots total. This laptop also has 64 Mb on board memory. Since it is old, does that mean it wont handle more than 256, like 512Mb. I am looking to fix it up as best as possible for as little as possible. Also this laptop has a 12 GB SMART HDD. I assume that it can be swapped with a standard HDD, provided they use the same connection.

Also any recommendations on a supplier of either would be appreciated.

    Thanx
Asus G2S-A1 (Upgraded HDD 160Gb 7200 rpm) The WUXGA Dual lamp screen is the best laptop screen I have ever seen You should get one!

I had one of those!!!, well 8 of them...(one every 2 weeks)

since then I have new accepted a free loner computer...

IF it is Pc100 any size of Pc100 ram will work, I think the biggest is 256 per stick, correct me if I am wrong, but It would be able to handle up to 512 mb

Well it can support 576(basically 512mb ram+the fixed(built it 64mb) SDRAM SODIMM PC100 and make sure if you upgrade the hdd that its the right size and pin(ide/sata/ata)

I am curious if it will handle one stick of 512Mb ram instead of two 256. Is there a limitation based on the mother board? Or FSB?

Be careful, when you upgrade HDD, you may broke delicate wires of HDD caddy. It happened to me, and the laptop now gives me a 1782 disk controller error.
