3.6GHz P4 w/ HT
2.0GB ddr400 RAM
WSXGA+ w/ Brightview
100GB 5400rpm HD
256MB Mobility Radeon x600
DVD burner w/ dual layer
Wireless w/ Bluetooth
(180W power supply)
I just ordered a notebook cooler because this thing gets hotter than a mug. Like honestly, I don't know why the fans even turn off. When they do turn off it's only for like 10 seconds, and then right back on. I don't think I'm even going to consider OC'ing the radeon simply because the heat is already along the lines of an OC'ed machine. You can hear the fans changing speeds with every application I open, and the hottest part is the HD. Wooooo, that heat gets worrisome sometimes, but it's manageable. I love the screen though. Damn, I just can't go back to my 17" 1024x768 85Hz flat CRT. But seriously, any thoughts on the heat issue? Maybe some settings I'm overlooking? And also, when I run benches in SANDRA, it says that the clock frequency for the RAM is not in accordance with the specifications for the mobo, what's up with that?
I don't agree with you about the heat. It's not that bad. I mean I can see a problem if you overclock, your CPU is faster than mine so I could see a slight heat difference. But its not really bad if you just use it regularly. When your gaming it gives a workout though. Thats because everything is to the max.
Glad you like the notebook though, it was worth the wait based on what you said.

Question, you got the dual layer burner in yours, can you check in the device manager and tell me what kind of burner, brand, it is?
I love this laptop but I got it with the normal 8x burner and it's slow as heck when I rip DVD's. I really don't care because I have an external that I use so that I don't wear out the internal but I'm curious what other people have in their laptops for a burner.

I recently ordered and returned a Compaq X6000 because I realized it was just too big for me. I actually ordered it off of this forums recommendations and I also noticed that most people are looking for the higher speed DDR2 RAM. I ordered a gig stick of the Kingston PC2-4200 DDR2 533MHZ RAM from Newegg and now I'm kind of stuck with it. If anyone here is looking for a gig of ram for cheap please reply to this post or email me. Right now I'd let it go for $150.00 even though I paid $240.00 for it.

I might be willing to take that off of your hands. Give me til friday to get my finances together. I'll make you an offer by friday if i'm intrested.
Also, I highly recommend the R3000Z if you want something a little smaller. I was going to get that one but the vid card wasn't enough for me. You may want to check it out and see if it fits your needs.

Frenzy, from what I've heard that is a good drive, good to know that it fits in these things. I was going to order my X6000 without a burner and order the NEC drive. I have had 3 different NEC burners and love them. They are really good quality drives. The last drive I had, a NEC ND2500A, burnt over 500 DVD's before it broke down and that was partially my fault. The tray got off track when I bumped the drawer when I ejected the tray. I performed surgery on it and got it lined back up (a miracle, never have had luck getting the tray back on track before) but when I got it back together I must have broken an electrical contact to the eject button cause now it won't eject or even try when you push the eject button. Needless to say I tossed it and bought a new NEC 3520 Dual Layer and have had no problems with it at all. Burns faster as an External USB drive hooked into the X6000 than the internal 8X burner in the X6000.
The burner in the X6000 that I have is an LG something or other burner, guess I should have opted for the Dual Layer and spent the extra 25 bucks. [
]
So, not sure what options are out there when you order the X6000 now but I'd STRONGLY recommend going for the Dual Layer burner because it's a better quality drive.

The default dell config costs about 1461.85 after the discount. That's a 2.0 GHz Mobility - 512 DDR2 533 - 17" UXGA Widescreen - 256 MB GeForce 6800 Ultra - 60 GB Hard drive. I already purchased 2 GB of DDR2 RAM and probably going to buy a 7200 RPM from somewhere else.
The dell is about $400 cheaper, including RAM/7200RPM HD, than the X6000 I have on order right now.

Hmm, not sure where your getting that price from? I went to Dell and configured the same notebook and got a price of 2388. You save 500 dollars off the price, they give you a price of 2888 and knock 500 off to get the 2388.
The coupon at ecoupons doesn't work for the 35 percent off because it states in the coupon that it can't be used for the XPS2 and some of the other laptops. I tried to use that coupon and it denied it.

It looks great in the dark, I took mine outside here on a very sunny day and had trouble seeing the screen but I'm blind as a bat, hehe. I don't think any laptop looks good outdoors truthfully unless you are in the shade somewhere.

Howdy, I'm new and I'm looking at a x6050 from our Future Shop/Best Buy stores up here in Canada. So far I've read everything you guys have talked about, and the x6000 seems fabulous.
My question is, how's the screen in darker rooms or places with a lot of sunlight? It seems awfully reflective to me, and watching a DVD on the demo in the store wasn't that great.
Squeezing every last hertz of life out of my Presario 2525CA. ^_^
