HP Vista driver downloads

Well, for those who've been waiting on HP to update their website with Vista drivers for their notebooks, HP has started to post them. Most aren't up right now, but a few have been posted. They don't seem to be cross-posting them across all models yet, but if you select one of the new systems that has Vista preloaded, such as the Intel-based dv6245us -- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...340169&lang=en -- or the AMD-based dv6225us http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...340164&lang=en you can get the few drivers they have posted.

So far there's:

I'll try to keep this updated as HP releases new drivers. They're WAY behind given that Vista reached RTM months ago and was released in stores today, but at least so far they are supporting x64 with all of their driver releases.

Update: 1/31 -- latest drivers ripped directly from the HP FTP -- not on their website yet!

So, I'm learning a bit about HP. I guess they post the files to their FTP server as they get them, then the web database goes through once a week and updates with the latest FTP updates. I'm not that patient, so here's the latest drivers from the FTP.

ALL are both 32-bit and 64-bit!!!

There are apparently a number of different flavors of Conexant HD Audio devices -- none matched my device ID, but maybe one of these will work on your system.

If the Conexant drivers finds that your system isn't one supported by that driver you'll get a MEDIA error when installing and the installer will quit.

Hopefully these get you closer to working systems.

As before all are compatible with Vista 32-bit and 64-bit. Included in the torrent are also some of the large applications preloaded on systems (HP games, NIS 2007 trial), so if you want those grab the torrent while its active. Also, all the video drivers I'm seeing posted by HP are essentially beta drivers from November and thus have been replaced by newer drivers on Windows Update so I haven't linked to those.

Synaptics Touchpad Driver -- Windows update has touchpad drivers on it, but the manufacturer seems to have newer ones that are signed for Vista, available here.

Lastly, today HP has put up BIOS updates for most Vista capable notebooks. Be sure to go to HP's site and grab the update for your system's BIOS.

2/1 Update #2: HP website now has most of these downloads!

HP finally has put up most of these downloads on their website. To access them, though, you'll need to pretend you have one of the new systems preloaded with Vista. Instead of looking for drivers for a dv2000t, for example, look for drivers for a dv2200 CTO. For 6000 series, dv6200 CTO, and for 9000 series dv9200 CTO. Nothing new there, just the same drivers I've linked to, but it's nice they're somewhat more accessible. The main change in these new systems seems to be the inclusion of Conexant "Venice" HD Audio, instead of Conexant "Waikiki" HD Audio, so those drivers won't work on some systems, but the others should.

Update 2/2: HP posts Vista Upgrade Utility to FTP -- and a few new drivers

If you've been waiting for HP to release their official upgrade utility, you can now grab it here. The utility is supposed to be run on XP. It will update your system to the latest BIOS, create XP restore DVDs/CDs if you don't already have them, advise you to back up your info, and delete your restore partition and quickplay partition (merging them in with your main partition). Once all that's done, it will have you insert your Vista DVD to perform the actual upgrade. The utility itself doesn't contain the drivers you'll need, but they want you to install the HP Update software (linked above) so when they finally post drivers you'll have them. You should probably read the full directions from HP located here.

For drivers, there's a few ones worth mentioning:
Conexant HD Audio #4 -- yet another one for "Venice" chipsets - here
Conexant Modem Driver -- also for "Venice" chipsets - here
Intel GMA950 Graphics driver -- this one's newer than the old ones HP posted, but I still would think WindowsUpdate has this or a more recent driver -- but if you want it, it's here

A note on HD Audio here: HP uses Conexant HD Audio on their consumer notebooks, but they use MANY different versions. The two main types are "Venice" and "Waikiki". If you select your HD Audio device in device manager, go to properties, then details, and finally select Hardware IDs from the property drop down, you should see your HArdware ID string displayed. Look for the part that says DEV_####. If that #### is 5045, then you have a Venice codec, and hopefully one of the 4 drivers I've posted will work for you. If that #### is 5047, then you have a Waikiki codec, and HP hasn't posted any drivers for those yet.

2/2 Update #2: BIOS Updates.

There are a number of BIOS Updates available for most notebooks that are recommended for Vista. These have been posted on HP's site, but I figured I would post the direct links for those who want them. If you plan to use the HP Vista Upgrade Utility you can skip the BIOS update as the utility should do it for you. For most everyone else, the BIOS update is highly recommended. These can all be installed from XP or Vista (32-bit or 64-bit).

These are the main models of HP and Compaq consumer notebooks and should be the BIOS that most people need. If you have a business system, or another model, check HP's website to see if a new BIOS is available. The models that end in t are Intel processor systems, and those with AMD processors end in z. Also, I used the generic model numbers above, if your machine is a HP dv2120us, you actually have a dv2000 series, and since you have an AMD processor, you want the dv2000z series BIOS update.

For Video drivers:

HP keeps posting (and reposting, and reposting) video drivers for various Nvidia chips and the Intel GMA950. So far these drivers haven't ever been any newer than the ones on Windows Update so I've mostly skipped posting them. If you run an Intel GMA950 graphics chip, I would just get any driver update from Windows Update. If you run on an Nvidia chip, either use Windows Update or get a newer driver from www.laptopvideo2go.com . Click on forums, then select the 100 series for the latest Vista drivers. I use the 100.54 drivers, and I've heard the 100.59 drivers work fine as well -- in fact, aside from an update for 8800 series graphics cards I believe they are the exact same driver. So select the driver you want then download the driver, expand it to a directory of your choice, and then download the modded inf file to get the driver to recognize your notebook chip and place it in the same directory as you extracted the installation files to. You can then either use Windows Driver Update (recommended) or in most cases just run the Setup file to update your drivers to ones newer than HP is offering. Nvidia is way behind in getting good Vista drivers out, and each new release gets them a little closer, so I would use the newer ones laptopvideo2go offers as opposed to any HP has posted at this point.

Update 2/9: Official Graphics drivers and more

Some people have mentioned that they want the official Nvidia drivers that HP is providing so here goes. These aren't the latest drivers from Nvidia but they're officially supported by HP:

As a side note, this is not the same "Waikiki" driver as the one needed by dv2000t owners, though it might install under 32-bit Vista for those who want to give it a shot. No word yet on when to expect a proper driver for those systems.


Update 2/20: It's been awhile

Lots of drama lately with HP and Vista (especially the dv2000t audio driver issue) but not much in the way of downloads. One big thing is that most all of these drivers are now available directly from the HP support site for the respective notebooks they apply to. But they're still behind, and this thread still seems like a valuable tool, so I'll post the new items that have shown up. Also, I have been watching the HP ftp site for new uplaods, and will continue to do so for awhile until the driver uplaods completely dry up.

Dv2000t "Waikiki" driver for XP: here -- this driver will install on Vista-32 only and provides basic audio support, though there are still some very real issues. Use at your own risk.

Intel Pro Wireless Drivers 6.00D -- here -- a minor update for those with Intel Wireless Chipsets (old version was 6.00C)

And last, but definitely not least, new member bigyoda1281 has ripped the webcam driver for those with dv6000 and dv9000 systems that weren't supported by the earlier driver in this thread. You can download the driver at http://www.mediafire.com/?bzvqioejnd0. Be warned, though, that though the driver is for the correct device, it doesn't appear to be working for that member. Please try it out, and post your results in this thread. Hopefully, someone will be able to get this working and post directions if needed.

Update 2/21: Official webcam drivers!

Alright, through some interesting trickery, many of us have gotten our webcams working in Vista, but today HP posted to its FTP server an all new driver that appears to be an update for all their webcam models.

Grab the driver here -- then run THAT file to start a rather lengthy installation that will do some kind of firmware update, and update a number of drivers. Do NOT try to extract the installation files and install manually, as there are several steps to this installation process.

It appears that this driver updates the webcam driver for ALL recent Pavilion and Presario models, including ones that shipped with Vista. Give it a shot, and if you have an issue, post it here.

Nothing special -- some of those didn't have x64 compatibility before. That's the big difference, though they're all dated 12/06, so nothing that new. Given that HP has Vista systems in stores, and is one of the premier Microsoft launch partners, not having drivers for download in time for release is pathetic. I chatted with a tech earlier today and they said it would take HP a week to get the drivers updated. I said they should have started a week ago then, and he just got indignant, eventually appologized for my inconvenience, but that was about it.

Worse, since December, they had posted on their website that driver's would be posted in mid to late January. Today the new Vista pages said that drivers would be available to download today. And, as of now, they still aren't. Pretty sad support.

As much as I hate to say it I am betting there is actually 0 new to those drivers. They probably tested them and the old 32bit ones just so happened to work with the 64bit OS. When I spoke to HP today they said they had no intention of creating 64bit drivers. As well they tried to tel me just to use the old XP drivers for the new OS as they "should" work. lol gotta love the great tech huh

Don't listen to HP techs. The people in India have nothing to do with anything. All of those drivers have separate drivers for 32-bit and 64-bit, so they have done some work in that regard. Also, for many drivers (audio, graphics, card reader, etc.) HP doesn't create the drivers, they just release the drivers by the component manufacturers after testing compatibility. They are testing compatibility with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista. Time will tell if all of their component manufacturers (I'm looking at you Conexant) release 64-bit drivers.

No, not necessary unless you want to install your own copy of Vista on the system.

Just did a recognicense (sp?) mission to Best Buy. They had several HP notebooks with Vista running. None were "locked down" so I took a look at the SwSetup directories. All the drivers I looked at (including Conexant HD Audio) had x64 Vista drivers available! I asked if I could back the driver directory up to DVD, but the people on the salesfloor couldn't authorize it, and the idiot Geek Squad guy refused because he said the drivers wouldn't work. I argued with him for awhile, but he was clueless so I gave up. I think I'll go to a different Best Buy tomorrow and try to do it without anyone noticing, if HP doesn't get the drivers posted by then.

In the meantime, anyone who purchased an HP notebook today preloaded with Vista, if you want some major rep points, by all means zip or rar your SwSetup directory and post it somewhere, on Bittorrent or otherwise. Ideally, we'd need two different uploaders, one with an Intel system and one with an AMD system to do this. I know MANY people on here would be extremely grateful.

Actually, come to think of it, i could use my 2gb SD card i use for ReadyBoost. There's over 2 GB of files, though, so I'd have to choose something not to grab.
