Yes: I will buy another HP computer. HP does not need to stand behind the products they sell.

No : I bought my laptop from HP, not NVIDIA. HP should have taken care of me and they did not.

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
Just a reminder, most of our "new" machines warranty ,ends soon so anyone with problems should not delay.
I had a problem with the display, and received decent service from HP.

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
Meh, I'm fine with my once in a while bluescreens and black screens and what nots lmfao I think my upgraded processor is the problem, probably from me stress testing it, I think I damaged it just slightly enough so that it happens once in a while more often when it's stressed, probably because it's doing more work and has more of a chance to hit that problem spot.

Appreciate the heads up. Thank you!
It's interesting:
Most often I'm able to double a one year warranty by virtue of having bought (whatever it is) with my Visa CC. Not this time. This time I'm looking at "one and done". It's been months since I even turned the darn laptop on. Guess I'll just have to live with whatever the fates cast my way.

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
I actually just checked yesterday, and my warranty is up today, so I contacted them for a battery exchange, since my current one is only lasting around 20 minutes now. Wow, who woulda thought it would be so difficult to exchange a battery, in the end I couldn't get an error code saying the battery was bad, so I decided to have them send shipping materials, wait for my new laptop, transfer everything over, and then ship the entire notebook to them, just so they can replace the battery...I was actually in the process of ordering a new powerful gaming machine for around $1,500. Ended up going to xoticpc.com and ordering a base Sager NP9170 / Clevo P170EM with branding removed and a $200 7970m upgrade. Got free shipping and a $50 NBR member discount, and a $10 Pro-Star price match.
Should be $1459.01 final cost plus $55.99 bigfoot killer 1202 wireless card upgrade which I will purchase on ebay, $1 generic keyboard cover, and $24.70 for a 20.1" privacy filter, which I will cut to size, so that I can stuff it under the frame, instead of using the ugly tabs.
Combined total cost $1540.70 :3

Serves you right for actually using the original battery!
(just kidding)
My own battery has been in my refrigerator for the better part of a year. I assume it's in good shape.
And I bought a new computer too, sort of . . . . I bought a 7" Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet. It's a heck of a lot smaller than my CQ56-115DX. And it's in the refrigerator right now, too, along with my battery.

Yeah, I'm new to tablets and so easily confused!
Not my CQ56-115DX battery. It is unprotected. But the tablet is in the refrigerator, in an airtight bag, along with four teaspoons of kitty litter! And I'm serious - not kidding around.
I challenge you to figure that one out!
[Hint: It's a particular type of kitty litter.]

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
(So-called) crystal kitty litter is 100% silica gel. Silica gel is a voracious scavenger of moisture . . . a major-league big-time dessicant. Said another way, silica gel is incredibly hygroscopic. And refrigerators are humid.
I've never owned a cat, or a kitty, so when I went shopping for kitty litter it was a strange experience. The first store had tons of it, but none of the crystal variety. And the other stuff is just, well, it's just kitty litter!
It's worthless.
But the second store I tried sold me four pounds of the right stuff for five bucks! I had priced silica gel earlier on the Bay. It comes out of China. I did way better at my grocery store by buying in quantity. Made up a large number of packets, using paper towels and a stapler, each with about four teaspoons of silica gel. Using 'em for everything that's sensitive to moisture: cameras and camera lenses, instruments, and my tablet. Silica gel rocks! And that's especially true in summer.

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
I bought a $1200 Hp dv9310 Entertainment Notebook pile of crap.
You all know the deal, NVIDIA blah, blah, blah.
So now I have been using this really crappy cq56 for over a year now..... and I have to admit it has not had one problem, it is just really bare bones, and plain. Certainly not the computer the dv9310 was (it even had a remote).
This is my problem, the mouse button is entirely too hard to press down!
After using this notebook for over a year I have developed an injury to my index finger that I use to press the mouse button down. My doctor has called this a repetative motion injury. My finger/hand is constantly sore. I am no longer able to press, or lift with my index finger without experiencing a great deal of pain.
I no longer use the notebook mouse, just a regular USB mouse.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Classaction?
