Yes: I will buy another HP computer. HP does not need to stand behind the products they sell.

No : I bought my laptop from HP, not NVIDIA. HP should have taken care of me and they did not.

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
yep. I got that same date now for my estimated ship date. After e-mailing milberg, here's the response I got back from one of there associates a couple of days ago:
"There has been a delay in getting these last batch of replacement laptops .The Tsunami/earthquake in Japan was a factor that delayed the entire schedule. We've gathered as much details as we can, the computers have been ordered and they left China late last week for Hong Kong where they will get shipped to the US distribution center. We are trying to get additional information, but a rough estimate for the shipment of the replacement laptops is mid September. If the website does not get updated by the end of the week do not hesitate to contact me again."
and then today....
"Check the settlement website today. The website and call center were update to reflect a new shipping schedule. The first batches should be going out shortly after Labor Day and all replacement shipped by the end of September."

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
I had a hunch the tsunami might have been a cause for the delay. I sure do wish Milberg had demonstrated this sort of responsiveness, customer care and empathy during the settlement. Things might have turned out reasonably well had they done so.

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
hi friends, my problems did not went away and need some help from here again
I wanted to load dual boot this CQ56 with ubuntu, and also need more disk space as I need to do some development in linux and a safer area to exchange files. So decided to use an existing 500 GB hard drive which is 9.5 mm.
I followed following steps. But have problems 6 & 7
1) Created a disk image of CQ56 with easeus todo backup free. To my surprise I have notices there are a total of 4 partitions (SYSTEM, WINDOWS, RECOVERY and HPTOOLS).
2) Restored the image to 500 gb hard disk with a easeus linux based bootable cd.
3) Every thing went well, windows booted fine after a little bit of thinking for first time.
4) Deleted HPTOOLS and RECOVERY partitions and created ~50 GB NTFS for data and rest (~200 GB) unallocated for linux.
5) Installed ubuntu on 200 gb partition.
6) After reboot, I am getting 5 options to boot
ubuntu, diagnostic, win7 loader, vista loader and more (update later)
7) If I select windows 7 loader, it again prompts me to start windows 7 where i need to click enter again.
8) Both windows and linux running fine. Linux has some problems with mouse.
I do not know what to do now, Trying to use EasyBCD but I have doubts where to point for windows 7.

Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
same here with craigslist. waste of time and too much worry.
i'm behind with this thread. for some reason this forum doesn't email thread updates very often. i thought the thread was dead and i log in to find out i've missed weeks of reading. i sold mine on ebay two weeks ago. $265 free shipping. the very day i gave up on selling it it sold. now i have a Acer 15inch from walmart for $398 and it's real good except battery life is about 2hr 52min vs 3hr 58 or so mins on the cq56. the build is good and pretty but speakers are way worse then the cq56. the cq56 isn't too bad for what it is. what's the going rate of battery life on laptops? 2hrs and something doesnt' seem long but then again the acer is a dual core.
i used mine for 2months and sold it on ebay for $265 free shipping. it took a week or two but it sold. i was surprised.

You can change your subscription setting to get daily updates.i'm behind with this thread. for some reason this forum doesn't email thread updates very often.Craigslist worked out wonderfully for me. I never allow email contact. The only option is for a potential buyer is to call me by phone and pay cash in person.same here with craigslist. waste of time and too much worry.Alienware M18x R1 v2.0 | Intel Core i7 3920XM @ 4.8GHz | NVIDIA GTX 680M SLI

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
Question: does the fact my laptops have GM945 chipsets mean they don't have the overheating Nvidia gpus?
I'm a newbie and I just found this thread. I'm about to open up my old HP Presario, and give it a brain transplant (to a T7200)
I bought one new HP Presario V3000 in 2006 (model V3100 CTO, also known as: RM666AV) . Got another on ebay, a couple of weeks ago, for $110. I've read that lots of V3000's burned up, and some models were included in the Nvidia settlement. I wonder if I just dodged the bullet--or if my machine(s) were never at risk.
BTW, I really like these V3000's: Light-scribe DVD-rw; five-in-one card reader; support (I hope) for core2duo; 3 usb; s-video, 5 hour battery, etc...

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
GM945 is an Intel graphics chip. And yes, earlier models such as V3000 and V5000 had a lot more features---card reader, express card slot, eSATA....etc.
Since then the features have been cut down to reduce costs and eventually reduced to the bare minimum for the lower end models.

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
FInally posted a delivery date of 9/23/2011. They confirmed receipt of my system and acceptance on June 4. So much for 8-10 weeks to get a replacement!!

Re: Coping with the Compaq CQ56-115DX - Life After the NVIDIA Settlement
Have my CQ56 on ebay, and just got a question from a bidder about the bezel around the display. He claims he has seen some with a silver bezel, and wants to know which mine has. I haven't opened the box, and don't wish to, but told him that all I have ever seen photos of have a dark bezel. Has anyone received, or seen a CQ56 115DX with a bezel in anything but the same color as the case? Thanks.
