Default Compaq CQ60-419WM CPU Upgradeable or NOT???

I know this is probably gone over before but I can't help to figure out why I can't upgrade from the Sempron SI-42 to a Turion Ultra ZM-80 on this notebook model. The motherboard is a Wistron 303c and should be upgradable to this CPU. I swapped the chip out and the display didn't go on, but the HD, Fan, and some lights came on and no beeps were sounding off. It has the latest BIOS F.54 but I'm running the Win7 Nvidia version...could that be the problem??? I can easily hose out and start new but I shouldn't have too. I doubt the chip is bad but I have no sure way of knowing this.

Has anyone done some kind of CPU upgrade for this exact notebook model??

Thanks any input would be appreciated

It should work, as the ZM-80 was an option that shipped in the CQ60 models (so it has BIOS support).

Was the cpu used or look like it had any damage (like a bent pin)?

    Thanks.
Looking at it through a microscope it looks perfect. I'll try remounting it again, I did put the Sempron back in and it started up, so it's got to be the chip. I just wanted to make sure I can use it because Compaq doesn't have an option to upgrade to the ZM-80 on there website for the Wistron 303c 8.60 motherboard Part#498464-001

One other thing, in the BIOS is says I have Vista as my OS, could that be it?

    Anyone else???

i believe that message reads "factory installed o/s" which just means vista was the o/s that was installed on it when it originally shipped

Cross referencing your board shows that it was used in the CTO version of the CQ60 as well, and the ZM-80 is present in the parts list with it.

Can you actually enter the BIOS?

Can you confirm that the ZM-80 is functional, install it another computer or did you pull it from a working laptop?

Was it new or used? Maybe it was taken from a broken laptop: sometimes a dying motherboard takes the CPU with it.

I can enter the BIOS with the SI-42...Funny thing is I reinstalled the ZM-80 for the 3rd time and it booted up for a couple of days, but then it went back to the blank screen after that. it seems as though the motherboard is keeping the chip from running. It's not running hot, I cut the grill out on the bottom of the laptop where the fan is. I tried different memory configs, reinstalled Win7. I ran the BIOS-AGENT test from WIM'S BIOS and it's telling me my BIOS is screwed up, but I'm not gonna pay to fix that. I'm not a newbie at this so I'm just beating my head trying to figure this #$%@ out.

Thanks for the input so far.
