It seems like HP is discontinuing the Dreamcolor panel in the 17" model, too. If you look at this updated specifications document there is no longer any mention of the 10-bit panel. Switching back and forth between the revisions you can tell that its clearly been removed.

The PCIe SSD sounds cool, especially for the people who are looking for raid-0 SSD performance. Chances are it will be pretty expensive as a configuration option, so getting an aftermarket upgrade would probably be a better choice. It is nice to see AMD Firepro cards available again. If they can do a 4710MQ/FHD/Firepro M6100 Smart Buy configuration for around $2000 it should be pretty competitive with the M6800.

Wow, you are right. If you look at page 41 of that PDF document, it shows the version history:

Date of change: Version History: Description of change:
August 25, 2014 v1 Added Styles and specifications through all document
Sept 15, 2014 From v1 to v2 Removed Dreamcolor references, Win 8.1 Remote Graphics note

Seems like there's only a few more days left to get a DreamColor screen, as the G2 models are supposed to be out by the end of this month. I may jump on it this weekend.

I wonder why they would do that. Maybe too many complaints on the current generation Dreamcolor display?

A lot of people complain of buzzing noises and pinkish hues on the display.

Well the G2 is now for sale on their web site (the G1 is still on sale too), and they still let you select the DreamColor option. Although I wonder if that option will disappear when they run out of stock. I just need to find out if HP will let you return a customized ZBook 17 with the DreamColor.

What is your budget? They actually have a smart buy Zbook 17 G2 with the Dreamcolor display, listed here. It is a little over $1000 more than the similar M6800 configuration, but at least it is a smart buy which means you may be able to get it for 5%-10% less from a reseller like Newegg or Provantage. That does include a 256GB PCIe SSD which may be very handy for scratch use with your video editing.

Thanks for pointing that out. On their page showing the 3 smart buys, it only said "FHD WVA" for that one, so I didn't bother to click on it. I'll definitely consider that one.
