I ordered a HP laptop to be shipped to US address. Shipping address matched the billing address, so my bank authorized the transaction. But HP cancelled the order because buyer could not be reached at the US telephone provided on order-form. I called HP support, to place the same order again but with non-US telephone number(as I am traveling outside US) . To my surprise it is against HP policy to call non-US number.
Few odd things….
>>>This whole episode took a week. Till now, HP has not sent a SINGLE email either acknowledging the order or about cancellation(Yes, I checked spam folder). I came to know about the whole episode only after talking to Customer Support
>>>Bank is on the hook for money, why should HP bother when Bank authorizes payment?
>>>For 2989$ laptop, HP charged shipping of 21$, like throwing salt on a wound.
>>>They talk about communication revolution but HP sale's dept is barred from placing a call to non-US number.
I used to say that large companies are as slow as any Govt. dept. This incident sealed it.
