    Hi all,

Could I ask someone of you to take a picture of their PSUs?
I was stupid enough to fall for this deal:
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/140671400806?...84.m1497.l2649

Bought two of them, later got a letter from my local Irish customs office that they have been detained for investigation on suspection of being counterfeit.

Few days later, got a letter saying they have been confirmed with HP as counterfeit and will be destroyed. Cannot be released to either me, or back to the seller in Hong Kong.

I never got to see the adaptors, since the customs office detained them before letting me have them. If the pictures would be off the actual items, do you lads recognize them?

Never before gotten stuff caught up in customs before like this, and I order quite frequently from Asia, and sometimes you get pure knockoff garbage, but I guess that is part of the game. Usually I would not care, but since the seller is now calling me a liar, I will not stop to get every single dollar back.

I have the AT895AA 230W PSU which looks different from your pictures

    it looks like this

so, hp of course could change the design but compared to your pictures I would agree that yours are counterfeits

Did anyone ever manage to reassign the Quicklook and Quickweb buttons? I managed to do that with the calculator button, but not with those 2.

Seems like someone knew something here: *HP EliteBook 8740w Owners Lounge - PART 2*

Still nobody who uses the 65W adapter succesfully?

They can be reassigned, but the method depends on which version of the OS and HP Quick Launch software in use. If you're using Win7, this might be helpful for you.

Thank you very much! Finally I got it running. I have Win7 but I changed the values in the HKCU branch which did not work.

To use the buttons as actual keys I tried using the FnKyActn.dll instead of BezlActn.dll which did not work. So now I call autohotkey.exe with the most basic script possible (just one SendInput) and can do everything now.

Has anyone information on the high-pitched sounds that the 8740w produces (whenever the processor does something in a certain way)?
I read about it somewhere here that HP knows about it and is working on a BIOS fix. I have the problem and it`s quite annoying in a quiet environment.

Hi everyone, i just discover this forum, it seems great about laptop. i'm french sorry if i don't speak english very well, i'm going to try my best.

I have one or two questions about the 8740W because i have one of them.

I would like to change the graphics card which is a Quadro fx 2800m actually and put an AMD radeon 6990m, is it possible ? i have already change graphic card on laptop but i don't know if this laptop is compatible with this new graphic card.

Moreover i would like to change the processor which is a I5-560M and put this one I7-920XM, i check on this site if i could realise it .CPU-Upgrade: Intel QM57 Express chipset processor support

So if someone can answer me it would be so nice

    thanks in advance

    Hi Ymoshietsu,

I'm french also and I will try to help you.
there is a different Graphics board heat sink for ati and you own a nvidia you need to replace it also, hp part number 596046-001, for the rest it should be ok
for the cpu, i'm probably wrong but i think there is no way to oc with the 8740w the 840qm should be a best choice. AND there is again a different Processor heat sink for quad core (you have a dual one) you need to replace it with hp part number 597570-001

    hope this help.

you can check the difference between these 2 cpu using this web adress Compare Intel® Products the fact that the 920xm is more easy to oc but, I think, with the 8740w you can't oc. Someone can probably confirm this.
    For nVidia I don't know, my 8740w use a 7820m from ati.
I only change the cpu, 520m to 840qm and i bought 597570-001 directly from hp parts web site but you can find one on ebay.
