Hey no worries! Just wanted to see if anyone is really going for it. I haven't had time to finish DA 2 myself...

Bro, you are always so full of surprises! Are you really going to h*ck the 8740w BIOS? I'd like to see the results, but I'm not going to overwrite my official F.0A BIOS, apart from I don't dare to exchange the graphic cards and I'm afraid authorized technicians cannot do that, he he. Remember I must send my unit back to HP when I receive the new replacement. I don't want to make things more difficult regarding my relationship with HP, LOL

This particular "upgrade" was on the table for a while now. If I only had the funds, I would be happy to assist but I don't. If done RIGHT, this wouldn't violate your warranty as you can always revert your "unofficial" BIOS (which is based off of the existing F.0A or upcoming F.0B BIOS anyways) to the official one and do a quick swap of the GPU if you ever get into trouble.

Also, the 6970M as you are aware is a different GPU, so the vBIOS on your normal card is not affected at all, we are only affecting the main BIOS that is used on the system board. So as I said, if done right, there is nothing to worry about. However, considering the nature of your HP Support reliability in Spain, I suggest against doing it, but in NA, as long as the methods you use doesn't not cause any ownership damage, the Support and Warranty is still valid.

    Hello

    I have a HP8740w with Intel core I7 q 720@ 1.60Hz, 8 GB RAM and a Nvidia quadro Fx 2800m with 1024MB.
My driver version is 8.17.12.6127 and the vbios driver 62.92.b6.0.8.
When I give the directx diagnostics commnad dxdiag it show me that the total memory is 487MB.
when I open civil 3d 2011 in 3dconfig command it show me the same memory.
In autocad civil 3D 2011 appload the GsTest.arx and the using a gstestbenchmark command with no drawings in the model give me the results:
    Wireframe : 141.803977 ms
    Wireframe : 1283.461892 fps
    Hidden Line : 152.321709 ms
    Hidden Line : 1194.839536 fps
    Flat Shaded : 161.743015 ms
    Flat Shaded : 1125.241788 fps
    Gouraud Shaded : 169.017021 ms
    Gouraud Shaded : 1076.814623 fps

I am afraid that same how bios or vbios affect my graphical card memory or the 2d and 3d graphics don`t work properly.
If you have same answers to me problems please write them.

    Hello,

I would like to put a mini pci-express SSD in the connector designed for mini pci-express WWAN but as far I understand all SSD requires an mSata mini pci-express and not all mini pci-express are mSata.

Somebody know If I can use mini pci-express SSD in 8740w ?

I extensively search for this matters in the forum and internet without success.

    Thanks

    Hiya

There is nothing wrong with your system.

The 261.27 driver has a bug in it that doesn't talk to the TAG API in windows.

(TAG = Total Available Graphics Ram)
    (API = Application Programming Interface)

Therefore it reports the memory as up to a 8th as much as there is.

    (Source Releases notes for driver)

Driver 267.76 on the Verde Line fixes this bug (From nvidia.com)

Also i note you have the old Vbios so if you are having issues upgrade it.

check out this post here on how to do it:

    Nvidia 2800/3800/5000M Vbios Tutorial

The vbios will enable you to use the newer drivers properly (past 251.37)
