@CubanIceCube,
When talking about thickness and comparing it to a Macbook, don't forget about the power of the components and the cooling potential

Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Elitebook 8740w Owners Lounge (NEW)*
well, it's a lot of stuff to compile and post up, it's why i'm doing it in bits in between work. but yea, i'm not sure if it's really neccessary, as it's a bit of a pain in the backside to install
it is however, extremely stable for production work!

Yes, yes it is. And you only have the 200 watt adaptor. The 230 watt that some of us got is even bigger (you can check my pictures earlier in the thread if you're curious).
My trackpad supports limited multi-touch (2 finger scrolling, specifically, I haven't actually tried using anything else because I don't usually have a need for anything else...). I agree about the keyboard, don't notice the lights for some reason, and my fan is often pretty much unnoticeable at idle... or maybe I just have too much ambient noise to notice. No real fingerprints on mine yet, but I haven't been trying. And the lack of pre-installed software is actually a little refreshing, considering the massive bloat that tends to come on a lot of consumer PCs... although when I did a fresh install to my 8740w's SSD (which I just redid, thanks to some fiddling >.<), there was an option on the driver/resource CD to install a PDF reader/editor (called PDF complete, I think.. it's available from the support page).
Oh, and for the record, I have a quad-core model (i7-740QM, 10 GB RAM from the 2 GB original and a pair of 4 GB sticks aftermarket, 240 GB Vertex 2 in the main bay, 640 GB Samsung HM640JJ in the upgrade bay).

I like to have this one with the 2820QM or another 1200p screen laptop (like the Dell M6500, or Lenovo thinkpad w701) with that same proc.Dell XPS 17 (L702x)
Intel 2720QM
12GB DDR3
3 GB NVIDIA® GeForce® 555M
1x320GB OCZ Vertex 3
1x250GB SATA-harddisk

Pre-order appears to be in May. No details yet, though.
