    setfsb now support 2510P overclocking

Abo has added the 2510P's ICS 9LPRS355BGLF PLL to his setfsb software. Below is a screenshot with a 5% overclock of the FSB and PCI-E clocks on a 1.2Ghz U7600 2510P. Note the bug where the setfsb command has no effect in increasing the FSB after the 2510P has been in a prolonged standby or hibernate.

    1: 2510P with 5% FSB and pci-e overclock
2: Error notification when PLL is in a frozen state after a prolonged hibernate or standby. A quick standby followed by resume will unfreeze the PLL and allow the FSB/pci-e clocks to be set *without* the need for a shutdown.

setfsb opens up a lot more performance tweak options. The U7600 is overclocked from 1.2Ghz to 1.4Ghz here. 1.5Ghz is a sweet spot with the standard voltages and RAM normal 266Mhz memory timings as set during bootup. Setting CAS=5 ram timings provides an extra level stability. The HP supplied RAM is DDR2-667 so it does support 333Mhz. Observe decent cooling/precautions in place.

    Windows 7RC1 32-bit WEI Scores
    Processor: 3.7 (U7600@1.2 GHz)
    Memory: 4.2
    Graphics: 2.4
    Gaming Graphics: 4.9
    Primary Hard Disk: 3.7 (80GB 4200RPM 1.8" ZIF)
    Processor: 4.2 (U7600@1.5GhzOC)
    Memory: 4.5
    Graphics: 2.9

    Primary Hard Disk: 3.7 (80GB 4200RPM 1.8" ZIF)
    Processor: 4.2 (U7600@1.5GhzOC)
    Memory: 4.5
    Graphics: 5.9 (external HD4670)
    Gaming Graphics: 5.8
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.9 (500GB 5400RPM 2.5" SATA)

NOTE: X3100 Vista driver increased desktop graphics score from 2.9 to 3.1 as described here

Configuration tested: U7600-1.2Ghz 2GB 80GB/4200rpm 2510P. Can see how it compares against newer tech, including a SL9400 2530P here. We see the single-channel X3100 graphics is a bottleneck, running 65% of the speed of a dual-channel setup. Bootup is faster with Win7 and is overall a pleasure to use. Can disable Aero if want very snappy performance even though it's quite usable with Aero enabled.

    Overclocking with Linux

See INFO: Overclocking the 2510P in Linux for detailed instructions. Another way is to boot to WinXP/Win7 running setfsb to overclock then upon rebooted (not shutdown) into Linux, the overclocked PLL settings remain. 'dmesg' shows per cpu bogomips@1.2Ghz=2394, bogomips@1.5Ghz=3001 (overclocked). Gnome's CPU Frequency monitor incorrectly shows the speed at 1.2Ghz.

    CPU temperature

If overclocking, consider observing CPU temps to ensure operation stays as far as possible below Tjmax of 100C using tools like HWMonitor or Everest. Better removal of heat can be achieved by application of some decent Artic Silver thermal paste between the CPU/northbridge and the heatsink or clearning/blowing out any dust or gunk accumulation blocking the little fan under the system. HP heat pads also probably deteriote over time, confirmed also by a 2530P owner who saw maintenance work done on his system. The fan/airway is easy to block with your knee if sitting on your lap since it's in the back right corner.

Memset, spdtool and thaipoon burner - alter RAM timings

Memset cannot alter the primary timing, CAS latency, but Thaiphoon burner or spdtool can by writing timing data to the RAM's eeprom. If overclocking over the 1.5Ghz range, then consider modding RAM eeprom to store CAS latency=5 in the 266Mhz timing table. This is the latency used by RAM operating at 333Mhz. Detailed instructions for power users are here. NOTE: Observe tools' warnings to prevent RAM damage.

    Hardware Overclocking (Advanced)

The 9LPRS355.pdf datasheet shows that a logic of 1 on the PLL FSLB pin would change the FSB to 166Mhz.

    FSLC FSLB FSLA CPUFREQ
    .....0......0......1.....133.33 <---- default
    .....0......1......1.....166.66 <-----overclock

Easiest to do by lifting the resistor attached to pin 57 and then running a small patch wire to a 3.3V logic point (3.3V) patch, eg: FSLa pin 10, to have hardware overclock to 166Mhz FSB.

PLL mod, 200mhz to 266mhz help please thread has more hardware overclocking info. Some NBR users have requested information to help figure out how Abo got around the 2510P's 9LPRS355BGLF PLL bootup TME mode. This image shows the before and after setfsb overclocking PLL registers values.

Monitoring battery usage and cpu load

The U7600 consume as little as 5.9W of power in idle with brightness turned down, wifi on and HDD in idle. Here is another comparative U7600 systems' battery consumption of 6.5W at idle. If yours is significantly higher in idle, consider investigating any runaway processes or devices adding CPU load and reducing battery life with process explorer. Ensure the Intel Graphics Power setting is to "Best Power Saving" as I noticed that consumes about 1-2W if set in non powersaving modes. Also soundmax sound driver set to Maximum Power Savings and ensure the Intel Gigabit LAN driver is loaded. WIthout it I had another 1W of power consumption.

Tools: batterybar | battstat | Batterinfo.

    hi
I'm new to the forum but i wana say that i have an 2510p and overclocked it to 166 mhz fsb by hardware mod and i must say IT WORKS now running@ 1492.6 GHZ by 165.7 mhz fsb with set fsb i can set it back or original

for NOOBS its hard to wire the chip !!!

    ps :
seems that the pll can set allways even after the deep sleep more info will come (with foto's)

Congratulations! If setfsb overclocks fine at 166Mhz, then yes, the hardware pinmod being preferred if don't have a warranty and are skilled to do the mod. Since the PLL is being hardset will maintain the setting between standby/resume events.

that one is VERRY long range n draft
i have tried to thange it with addc but i don't get it to work

Can you help me with that?

When you had the laptop open did you notice how the speaker is connected? Mine only works if I press on the case just to the right of the touchpad. I want to know if is is worth the hassle of opening it all up.

    Thanks

The speaker in under the mainboard (i have replaced 2 monts ago it was broken) and its cost a lot of time to get there
under the touch pad is the connector (2 wire red and black) you possibly get ther by removing the 4 screws behind rubbers and bow the case (see mainboard foto in next post

the connector is at the right of the touchpad it may be loose

    1/ 2510P mPCIe whitelisting workaround
2/ Linux flashrom to read/modify bios The save bios file has 86804229 strings in it for the iwl4945 which could modify and try to flash. I didn't dare try as have no eeprom burner / backup bios chip in case it doesn't work. [ Please report if have any success doing this ]

I wanted to see if it was worth trying (1) above with the WWAN port too.. which is why I wanted to know if there are tracks leading from it's pci-e TX/RX lines (23/25/31/33) there. Would be great if could have two mPCIe devices active. If there are no tracks then it's impossible.

The hardware overclocking mod. Incredible intricate work attaching a wire directly to the PLL pin leg. My equipment not so fine to do that. There's a resistor leading off pin 57 that I'd use it's edge to solder on. BTW - did you lift the resistor to disconnect pin 57 from the rest of the circuit? Looks to me like you ran 3.3V (pin 10) straight to FSLB(pin 57).

FYI - Updated info on why the slave channel runs < 30MB/s writes showing how the Runcore ProIV SSD is affected when run in 33Mhz timings. Easy fix using baredit.

I lift lifted the pin from the mainboard and puted a wire on.
my solder equipment is an weller wpc60 and it was HARD to do

the 2510P mPCIe whitelisting workaround didn't work for me don't know what I'm doing wrong (I burned a cd an runned it but no luck) but when taping pin 20 of pcie there is no difference the wlan button works so maby that is the problem
i found a picture from pcie bus but i don't know of it was the pcb or connector site

maybe you can help me ??

ps the pll still freeses i still need the resume trick

Critical is you need a pci-e snapshot of YOUR system. If you burnt a CD previously then this would not have been done. Suggest using a USB or floppy disk as you'll need to save data to it.

INFO: Workarounds to bios whitelisting of WWAN/WIFI mPCIe slots

8/28/10: see modded bios for some modified whitelist entries.

Devices in the 2510P whitelist Use ADDCC V3 to add a non-HP device to these lists.

Left: The wifi whitelist, underlined is the 4965AGN card supplied with my system
Right: The USB WWAN whitelist with items as below:

    - HP HS2300 (Sierra MC8775) WWAN card ID:03F0 1E1D
    - HP EV2200 (Sierra MC5720) WWAN card ID:03F0 1B1D
    - HP EV2210 (Sierra MC5725) WWAN card ID:03F0 211D

ADDCC has been used successfully to add Intel 5100AGN wifi to the 2510P whitelist here, a Dell 5530 WWAN to a 2710P whitelist here.

I tried to modify the wwan whitelist for a MC8781 (1199:6858) but it would not not appear in device manager/lsusb. A Lenovo S10 user had the same problem. Not sure if my wwan slot is kaput or the bios needs some specific initialisation that the MC8781 fails to do.
