acer hardware diagnostic
Hi,
Anyone know where to get acer notebook hardware diagnostic software. Acer say its only available in their repair centers.
I have an Acer aspire 5102 notebook with an intermittant power problem, I'd like to run the diagnostics myself instead of sending the laptop to acer.
cheers

What kind of power problem is it? You might not need diagnistic software to fix it. We could help.

Re: acer hardware diagnostic
My acer 5102 occasionally halts on bootup and displays the error "0251 - CMOS Checksum Bad. Default Configuration Loaded" after its been shutdown for a while.
If I shutdown and retart straight away it boots fine.
The only change I can see in the bios is the time and date reset to defaults. Once this is updated the laptop boots ok and works fine.
It also shuts itself down occationally when coming out of sleep mode.
Just wanted some diagnostic software to determine if its a hardawre fault - dont know if its the cmos battery, power supply, battery or worst case scenario the systemboard.

Re: acer hardware diagnostic
I personally probably would rule out the system board, although the charging circuits may be malfunctioning, it is unlikely. You seen to have it pinned to the most likely areas though and in most cases those items can be easily replaced with new items. First thing I would replace though is the cmos battery. Seems to be the most likely culprit. Battery second then power supply last. This is just me though. YMMV

Re: acer hardware diagnostic
Shut down your laptop, unplug it, and pull the battery for 30 mins. See if that fixes it.
