7200rpm 8mb cache or 5400rpm 16mb cache Hard Drive
What do you guys think? I could not find any reviews of this question. I am needing a hard drive around the 60 to 80gb range and am not sure what i want. Any input would be great. I use it for watching movies and remote desktop manly. It is a 2000 centrino with 512mb ram. Thanks guys

Re: 7200rpm 8mb cache or 5400rpm 16mb cache Hard Drive
I don't find the extra cache as much of a boost, especially for the slower notebook drives running at 5400RPM. So expect performance simillar to any other 8MB cache 5400RPM.
7200RPM remains the fastest option, mainly the 7K100.
Check out the review at tom's, that Toshiba in the benchmark results is a 5400RPM 16MB cache drive, it is this one.
As you can see it is a poor performer even compared to 5400RPM drives.
If you are willing to pay, the 7K100 is the best out there. It will give you faster load times, and faster transfers.

I agree. I feel that the larger cache is less important than a higher spindle speed. I do not know the price differences of the two, but I always recomend a 7200 rpm HD (But thats just me).
