Recovery disc does not work with new HDD..

I placed my ASUS recover disc with my HDD installed and it does not work. Can anyone tell me the steps to make it install XP using that recovery disc? I have an xp disc too though.

This is my first reply on the forums. I assume that neither your recovery disk or your xp install disk don't include the SATA drivers necessary for your HDD. Hopefully you have a 2nd computer available to download them from ASUS's support site and load them up, follow the directions from their site. If your computer is unresponsive while reboot, try F8 and then restore to a previous backup point where everything was fine. Keep in mind that system restore could easily be changed without your permission also so it may not work properly.

I'm not 100% sure that the new harddrive is compatible with your laptop model but the SATA drivers needed to see the HDD would be the same. This new harddrive ever booted before from your laptop?

I will try it with the xp install disc. I think it should work. And no, i havent booted with the new hdd before.

Hello, some updates. I used a winxp cd i had and used the cd key thats below my notebook. Is it still legit? I still activated windows but to install languages, i had to insert the winxp cd.

How does it not work? As in it gave you an error or just didn't boot? Hmm if thats the case where it has hardware detection down to the drive then my set of recovery disks are less than worthless!

Its legit because you got to use your real key. Languages always need the cd to install so thats normal as well.

It just says, recovering now and it just sits there, the cd stops running. So i guess without that partition, the cds are useless after all.
