What software would you recommend for me to use for my school laptop?
Are there any specific programs you would recommend that would enhance my note taking, or some programs which will help file my notes? Or any programs in general which would help my schoolwork in my laptop?
I intend on using my laptop in the coming year at school, and I do type fast, so hopefully I won't have any problems with keeping up. But I could use all the help I can get.
So any suggestions?

Re: What software would you recommend for me to use for my school laptop?
Woops that stuff ain't so important, but investigate a program called 'one note' made by Microsoft i think there is a trial/demo available.Hmm You'll be needing office software thats for sure
You have two choices really:
Office 2007 student and teacher edition
OR
Office 2007 Professional academic
The decision you have to make is do you want publisher or onenote more?
Oh and you'll need some standard anti-virus and firewall software
What sort of notebook/desktop do you have?Last edited by jsf_enthusiast; 11th August 2007 at 07:46 AM.

You can use free software, "open office" does do the same thing. I kind of wondered what are you asking because you must know about the basics? So are you looking for a magic bullet? If you organize, these will work fine. There are apps that will index much better than either of these so you can retrieve much more. I can't comment but if that is what you want they are out there. I might look and re-post.

office is a very important piece of software for students, especially word, excell and powerpoint. As mentioned before, note taking software is called OneNote, and is already included with office 2007 student edition.nI would also recommend downloading adobe pdf reader as well.

I agree with baddogboxer Open office is pretty much the same as MSOffice, and there is googledocs & speadsheets but it isn't as good as Open office.

Skip the overpriced Microsoft programs. Go to OpenOffice.org and use that - it's a free Office Suite designed to be compatible with MS Office. Even has the same look and feel as MS Office. But the best part is - it's free!
It will do everything you could possibly want it to do, but the price is much nicer than the Microsoft Office.
I'm a part-time student and that's what I use, works perfectly!

Re: What software would you recommend for me to use for my school laptop?
Word of advice: Don't use OpenOffice Draw to design simple fractals... Microsoft Word handles it fine... OpenOffice draw does not!
I found this out at 10PM at night when I decided to put the finishing touches on a fractal for a maths assignment. The sheer complexity crashed OpenOffice completely, and took my assignment with it. (OpenOffice was unable to recover the file) I was up until 3am redoing it.
But for everything else, OpenOffice RAWKS!

If you're going to college, they generally have MSOffice for free

Re: What software would you recommend for me to use for my school laptop?
Oh, yeah, weird choice I know. For some reason it was compulsory to do it in an office suite. It's not like we don't have any of the other software either!
P.S: Probably because they weren't complex fractals in any way. The sort of thing you could whip up in Word in about 20 seconds.Last edited by ChanchoWancho; 12th August 2007 at 03:42 PM.
