X9100 E0 vs C0
Hey everyone,
I have a p-7805u laptop which has been performed incredibly well for the past few years but is now getting a little long in the tooth. I want to upgrade the CPU in order to squeeze a few more years out of the machine and this site has been great for research purposes. Based on the comments here, I've decided on the x9100 but am unable to find any of the E0 stepping versions. It seems that most members on the site were able to get the QHBQ versions from Shirleyfu on ebay, but now both she and all the other sellers only have SLB48 and QBDW versions for sale. I was wondering if I should just go ahead and get a C0 version or keep trying to find an E0 version. I'm worried about heat issues since my laptop gets very hot now with just the stock CPU. If anyone knows where I could find an e0 version, that would be great.
Thanks

Re: X9100 E0 vs C0
E0 runs MUCH cooler, so it's well worth it. For example - I could go up to 3,2GHz with X9000 (C0, same performance as X9100 C0), and now with the X9100 E0 - up to 3,6GHz. There was one for sell on eBay just couple of days ago and someone made pretty nice deal - $147,50 (free shipping for the US). If you are patient enough you could snatch one at some point. And yes, just as you, I asked every single seller out there and all of them said no. I waited another month or so, and I got it from a place I wasn't expecting at all - my country, for dirt cheap on top of it

Re: X9100 E0 vs C0
Thanks for the reply Triturbo. I actually saw that x9100 on ebay a few days ago and was the sole bidder until someone sniped it from me in the last few seconds for two and half dollars more. Needless to say, I was not pleased. I think I'll just keep holding out until I'm able to find one. I was hoping that someone may know where I would be able to obtain one. The only E0 versions I can actually find are on sites like Aliexpress, which is a bit too risky for my tastes.

That's a rare piece, you should have bid higher, also taking in account that C0 goes around that much. While it was still up for sale, E0s were about $350! Sorry to tell you, but you missed quite of a deal

Re: X9100 E0 vs C0
I know
I very rarely buy anything from ebay, and when I do, it's always something that's "Buy It Now". I'm not used to the auctions. Now I'll have to go back to monitoring the site everyday.
I did find this:
Wholesale Intel Dual Core X9100 QHBQ laptop cpu QS Version
But I don't know if I should go for it.

Re: X9100 E0 vs C0
Depending on what laptop you have, you might want to consider a qx9200 - the QAVS and QAVR are cheaaap right now, and the chip is a beast - not only is it overclockable, but even at 2 GHz it should beat the X9100 in intensive apps. Undervolt it and the temperature will be about the same as a C0 X9100 :-)...

@jotm - Quad would be nice, but he said that his lappy is already on the hot side.
@bea004a - I personally never bought from there, but few Acer members bought 6770Ms from there, not from this seller though.5920GHGH - X9100 E0 @3.6GHz | MSI HD4670 | 8GB | M4 mSATA 256GB + 7K1000 | 6300AGN | W7U 64 (cdoublejj) / VistaU 64 (Gophn) | CM 120W | MX Revo | E585 | Custom BIOS | CoolingOverhaul S2+TU CM U3 and MX-4 cooled | 2ch LVDS (HighResDisplay)

Re: X9100 E0 vs C0
he has a 7805u... not quad compatible... unless he did a mobo swap... but then theres no reason to call it a 7805u...
ANYWHO, if anyone finds one for $150~ im also very interested... E0 or bust... expecially with the reviews here on "vs" and other sites as well... the E0 is a "hawt" little number

Re: X9100 E0 vs C0
Like Hammerfest said, based on everything I've read on this site, my p-7805u is not quad compatible. There are really three best upgrade options: The T9900, X9100 C0, and X9100 E0. Unfortunately, the C0 have heating problems, the E0 are nonexistent, and the T9900 is still relatively expensive for an old chip. Does anyone know if it is possible to overclock the T9900?

Re: X9100 E0 vs C0
Yes, do the PLL pinmod like done by kravis at Has anyone successfully overclocked p7805u CPU? and you could get a lower specced CPU like a P8700 to run at similar levels to a X9100. A T9900-3.05 with the same dual-IDA and 400Mhz FSB overclock would be theoretically limited then to 4.8Ghz.
