Default P-7805u crash while in sleep mode

Okay, so I'm not sure if this has any relation the the known Firewire problem. I've only just now disabled the Firewire driver. I was having the restart into blank screen issue, so I guess that's taken care of.

    My current issue..

I place my computer in sleep mode, and whenever I get back to it, usually hours have elapsed, the computer has shut off. Upon start-up, the bios messages tell me "Windows wasn't properly shut down." Upon entering Windows 7 (64 bit), I get the "Windows has just recovered from a serious error", or, "Windows has just recovered from an unexpected shutdown." Sometimes it remains in sleep mode without issue, but it often does this.

I've updated every driver on Gateway's site. Anyone else having this issue?

    Thanks!

With windows 7 either the 1394 port needs the .23 bios or you have to use the legacy drivers. This may not be your issue. there couldbe one of several others.

Most comon is in sleep the system doesn't shut the CPPU down properly but does shut down the cooling. As the cpu overheats the bios shuts it down causing the error. This can also happen to the video card as well. Now this can happen as it tries to shut down the 1394 port but hangs never getting to the CPU itself. (note the CPU is the last piece of hardware shut down.)

Best bet is to actually be there when it shuts down from sleep. In this way you can tell if it is overheating etc. Observations play a huge part in troubleshooting...................

Oh, TANWare, I've seen a lot of your posts from 09' and before regarding our P series notebooks. You've been a great help without even realizing it. Thanks.

I normally put the laptop to sleep before bed, with it successfully sleeping (I've sat and watched it for a good hour or two) and often wake up to find it off.

I own the P-7805u and I'm trying to get it back in to fighting shape for Diablo 3 (Air dust/thorough cleaning, ICD 7, T9900, undervolt, overclock, etc.).

    Anyway...

So far, I've disabled the 1394 port, and the laptop has stayed in sleep mode without shutting down. Perhaps that is the issue. I know the 1394 port was doing something else screwy with the sleep, but nobody had this exact issue.

It seems like that was it. I'll keep looking out for it.

Thanks again for all your help.

The great BIOS modder himself modified the .23 BIOS, works perfect for me. (I posted a thread about it here somewhere). If you have no lingering attachments to the .17 BIOS, give .23 a go.

I did end up with the .23, and I've had no problems yet.
