My Gateway MT6832b Notebook, without warning or previous indication of impending problem, suddenly stopped working. There now appears to be no power getting through at all, I have checked the power adapter and it is OK delivering 19 volts to the input port on the notebook The notebook, however, remains completely dead with no charging LED or power on LED lit or any other indication of life showing.
I removed the battery, held the power on button down for 60 seconds and rechecked but the notebook remained completely dead.
I got the same result after I replaced the battery & removed the power adapter before holding down the power button.
Again I got a negative result after removing the two memory modules, & going through the resetting procedure before replacing the memory modules.
I gather that this is a common fault with this computer which can usually be corrected by the power management resetting procedures described above. Unfortunately that is not so in my case. I think I read somewhere that this fault can occasionally be caused by a dry joint where the power adapter socket connects to the motherboard.
Is there a web site where I could find detailed instructions for disassembling the MT6832b notebook?
Are there any other avenues or possible causes I could explore short of replacing the entire motherboard.? I am fond of this notebook but replacing the motherboard would be a step too far.
