P-7805u GPU not cooling properly?
I've had mine for 2 years and now I've ran into a problem. It idles at 55~65c and I recall being able stay in the 45~50c range. Then when I play games it can go to 85c. The odd thing is that since yesterday, when I watch something on Youtube the card instantly goes to 80c and it's never done that before. All instances it takes the card quite sometime to cool down. So it's not necessarily overheating but maybe the fans aren't working properly? Perhaps something some new thermal paste might resolve?
It's my first time posting here so if there's anymore information I can provide that might help please ask. Semester just started, I can't afford another computer.

Re: P-7805u GPU not cooling properly?
Well, for your idle temps, what is your BIOS? 9C.20 and 9C.23 would give you higher idle temps. You probably have a lot of dust in your fans. When playing a game how fast is the air blowing out? Putting on better thermal paste does help temps because Gateway uses bad thermal paste.
Now back to the BIOS. I'm going to guess that you have 9C.20/23 because 9C.17 wouldn't let the card get to 80C watching a Youtube video. Also Powermizer is really ty and when using the internet it will often cause your card to go into 3D extra mode. Watching any video will cause it to be at the second profile at a minimum.
My recommendations: Get a laptop cooler. Switch to 9C.17 (although I continue to use 9C.20 because I don't want my GPU fan to spin up and down on battery.) If these aren't enough then you will want to take apart your laptop to clean it out and apply ICD7 thermal paste.P-7805u FX

Re: P-7805u GPU not cooling properly?
Thanks for the reply. Actually I am using 9C.17. I will get some thermal paste and some compressed air to clean out the insides a bit. Haven't done so since I got the laptop.
Powermizer you say? Just download from the Nvidia website? Perhaps a issue with my driver? Using the 186 drivers.

Get MSI Afterburner to show the graphs of your graphics card. Perhaps you have Powermizer turned off. If so then get a program called Powermizer Manager to turn it on and control it.
The 186 drivers are pretty outdated. Get either the newest one or perhaps 195.62 which was a popular one for some reason.P-7805u FX

Re: P-7805u GPU not cooling properly?
Might have been a driver issue. I switched to the dox drivers. Stays at about 55c unless I'm in game.

Re: P-7805u GPU not cooling properly?
Yeah I'm actually still having issues. My fans seem to be going crazy and on most of the time. I'll have to clean the insides. Is there anyway to diagnose if there's something wrong with my hardware?

Re: P-7805u GPU not cooling properly?
55%c is not that bad if you can't figure out what the problem is, the room temp if it's hot could be part of it to. My 7805 was at 67% for months until I noticed and went back to Bios .17. You can see if the fan is running with not restrictions, or blockage. You can try to put something like a book 1/2" under the back to prop it up for better ventilation.

I just installed 9C.17.00. It's definitely running cooler. Check the max column.

Re: P-7805u GPU not cooling properly?
The Max reading was an error, i have gotten that in the past. Slow protect is 100C, 255C is smoke and flames
OP, I would have to go with bad TIM pad and/or thermal pipe problem if fans and fins are clear and working suggested by U.D.
I clean the crud every 6 months with compressed air.Gateway P6831FX -T9300 -512MB 8800M/GTS -3GB Ram - 2-WD250GB -Vista Home+SP2
