Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
do you presently over clock the video? Also when is the last time you have cleaned or repasted the GPU chip and cooling?
If you are OC's try stock clocking the GPU. Even with this if you continue to get those black screens you could either be overheating the chip or even if it says temps are ok you could just be spot overheating both of which can permanently damage the system.
Gateway FX series systems are famous for needing frequent and regular cleaning of the cooling systems. Moving alot of air mean dust and other goodies too. Our systems will clog up regularlly.
Another thing is the original TIM. It was a cheap liquid and tends to crack and/or boil out. Many a thread here help you fix and maintain the cooling. The problem can be if you wait until problems to show from cooling the damage may become irreversable. Many a thread on that subject as well.Samsung NP700G7C-S01US, Ubuntu 12.10 & Windows 7, i7-3820, BD R/W, GTX 675m, 16GB Ram, 480GB Mushkin SSD Boot & 750GB 7,200 RPM Data, 400 nit 1080p 120Hz screen.

Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
I've had mine for about two months now, and it's very... unstable. Today I played New Vegas for an hour, then mass effect 2 for 2 and a half hours. Before either of those I played Oblivion for 5 minutes and it black screened and crashed. I updated the bios with the Gateway made update, and the screen problems and driver crashes stopped. I power mized it, slow down GPU core only max perf, min power save. It some times crashes when I play san andreas. Crashed once when I was using the GECK editor.
I don't get why it can't handle Oblivion. I'm not anywhere near maxed out settings on any game I play. I don't even use antialias. Without power mizer and the bios update, this thing crashed if someone in Pakistan farted. Now it's will it crash? How long do I have to play before it does? Can I play all day, or for five minutes?

Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
Just realized i need to gut out my laptop because it's usually running at extremely high temps, usually around 80c, and that's just not right
Edit
Just cleaned enough air from both fans to free up about 50% of their intakes respectively.Last edited by Neoflame1; 11th December 2011 at 03:02 AM.

Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
The nVidia 9800m in the FX's is known to have a bios issue with GPU memory timing switching between 2D and 3D speeds. Having powermizer disabled limits this memory speed switch. The system has some other issues as well.
While the cooling in pristine condition works well there is a devil in the mix. Having the needed enhnced air flow also alows other particulates in. The problem then is a clog and reduced cooling capability. The other problem is actually the clocks.
Most systems from lack of cooling actually underclocked stock the GPU and memory. This reduced power and cooling requirements. Our problems are two fold as we are stock clocked and because of the initial numbers alot of users are overclocking their GPU's.
This problem is further enhanced my poor maintenance and the system itself. The lowly power supply being over stressed, the cooling system not being properly kept up with and also the fact this is an econo system and the TIM needs to be replaced and improved.
Another issue often over looked is the power brick. Over time these supply less power and even new for a stock P7xxx these are barely minimal. Under supplied power will have the same effect to the components as running the system overclocked beyond stability and leaving it there. This is why I have always used a 180w Targus power supply. An under supplying brick will cause stability issues and can KILL your system.Samsung NP700G7C-S01US, Ubuntu 12.10 & Windows 7, i7-3820, BD R/W, GTX 675m, 16GB Ram, 480GB Mushkin SSD Boot & 750GB 7,200 RPM Data, 400 nit 1080p 120Hz screen.

Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
Well, I played new vegas and mass effect 2 again last night for a combined 3 hours, no problems at all. I tried oblivion with max performance in the nvidia GPU control, and as I expected it had no effect. Five minutes, black screen and crash. Then played ME2 for an hour and no issues. I'm getting low temps. I keep it elevated, and since it's nearly winter, it's freezing in here right now. But even yesterday when I had my heat on, the thing did not crash while I played ME2 and it got hot in here. Nhancer does not work on my system for whatever reason, so I can't use that as an option.
I can't find any solution as to why it's having problems playing oblivion and some older games. In new vegas I was popping off hundreds of nukes and didn't even lose framerates. But in Oblivion it crashes when I stand still in an interior.

Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
My normal temps on my videocard are really odd, it goes from 67C to about 83C in a matter of 60 seconds, and then the fan kicks in, cooling it down to 67C again.... i don't understand why my running temp is to high, especially after i meticulously cleaned the fans / heatsinks / vents

Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
I have tried everything and Oblivion crashes 5 or so minutes in. I finished mass effect 2, and filmed Machinima in fallout 3 for an hour. It did black and crash once, but is generally stable.
I just don't get it...

Re: Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!
I don't get it either. I think some games just won't run because of some obscure setting or some weird registry entry or what have you. You will see my post about the Marathon game not running on my P7805u. That game has been out there for many years but causes BSOD on my computer. It runs on Apples, Linux, Win XP, Win 7 but not my computer. Go figure.

you did try this right?
nVidia Black Screen Fix
Version: 1.0.0
By: Quarn (quarny@gmail.com)
|Description|
This mod fixes the annoying black screen bug that afflicts nVidia cards.
This bug happens when:
-You have a nVidia card (tested and confirmed on 8800GTX\GTS).
-HDR is enabled or no screen effect is enabled, bloom isn't affected.
-You're in an interior cell with NPC's.
-The interior cell has the Fog Near, Far and Clip Dist all set to 0.
What this mod does is set the Fog Near to 0.0001 (doesn't make is look any different at all) in any interior cell that has 0 for Near, Far and Clip Dist which prevents this bug from occurring.
|Notes, Known Issues and Incompatibilities|
-If you are still getting this black screen bug then either of 2 things are happening: something has overridden the changes of nVidia Black Screen Fix or it's a new cell added by a mod.
-This mod also fixes a related bug where your hands and arms turn white (when no armor/clothes are worn over them) on certain angles/areas in cells afflicted with the black screen bug.
-Best to load this mod first (though after Unofficial Oblivion Patch and Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch if you have them).
-Supports the official expansion pack: Shivering Isles.Gateway P6831FX -T9300 -512MB 8800M/GTS -3GB Ram - 2-WD250GB -Vista Home+SP2
