Default P-7805u GPU Overclocking Guide for Newbies

I've noticed a lot of new people coming to the forum in search of answers to various questions so I thought, being a newbie myself, to put up this guide for all the other newbies to this wonderful site. First of all, I take no credit for this guide, as I have just copied it from several posts made by SemiGamer. I hope you don't mind SemiGamer, but I found your posts very useful and felt that others would also.

    P-7805u GPU Overclocking Guide

    1. Download and install the drivers that work best for your system:

    Nvidia - http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
    or
    Dox's - http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...?showforum=122

(if you need help installing these please see The Defininitive nVidia Driver Upgrade Guide here The Defininitive nVidia Driver Upgrade Guide)

    2. Download and Install NVIDIA System Tools with ESA Support (the newest version is 6.03 however according to SemiGamer's post the 6.02 version was referenced, i don't know if it makes a difference) (Also when installing it's easier to allow the install to create the desktop shortcuts for you)

    6.02 http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_...ools_6.02.html

    6.03 http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_...ools_6.03.html

    3. Double click on the Performance shortcut

    4. On the left side, click the + sign next to "Performance"

    5. You'll get three options, . Use the following settings:

Core Clock 600 MHz to 710 MHz

Memory Clock 799 Mhz to 950 Mhz

Shader Clock 1500 Mhz to 1750 Mhz

    6. Click Save

    7. Click Apply

    8. Enjoy

According to skysky123 the GPU temp was around 68c

I hope this helps and if anyone has anything further to add, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't understand, DL Dox's driver, and Forceware? Are they not both Video Drivers?

Thanks for the catch flynnaz, I made the appropriate edit. Maybe I should have waited to write this during my 2 toddlers nap time. lol

I noticed something weird, maybe its just me when I downloaded the NVIDIA System Tools with ESA Support 6.03 the file showed up as 6.02, I double checked it too. I will look tonight to see if the program itself shows the right version.

Is there a way that we can modify the bios on these 9800m gts's? I wanted to play with the voltage a little (under/slight over) and you can't do that in the ntune software.

    I have a p-7811 if that matters.

Doesn't work for me... Trying to change the clocks at all just gives me a "The changes made were invalid and will not be applied" message.

Ok, seems this doesnt work unless the laptop is plugged in.. Interesting.

Nibitor may be able to do it, I haven't been able to find out definatively if it supports the GPU or not, though frequently you can just use the settings for a similar device (9800m GT which is definately supported in new versions) and then change the device ID for flashing.

Something you guys might want to try is using the ORIGINAL drivers. I have had NO issues at all with the ORIGINAL shipping drivers. I have had some kind of issue with every other "modded" driver. Just my .02.

Yes - playing with the volts will save you massive trouble with a 7811 and gaming.

I have de-volted mine and overclocked my 9800 and had excellent results so far.
