That sucks, it was even worst for me, bought a QX9300 and Q9100 to try in the old M860TU, I lost about $250 in the end reselling and wasted a month (delayed shipping etc...)

If it isn't broken don't fix it. You can forget quad support for now too. There doesn't seem to be any major fixes between the versions so if all is well then your upgrade should be fine with the version you have.

If you are using .05 and want RAID0 support use .08 or higher otherwise, you might as well let it go. some say .12 helps the fan bursts...

Bought a reconditioned 7811 in January but now I want to install raid, installed .12 but when I go to enter the bios it asked for a password. Is this normal? Do I just clear the bios now?
I read though most of the 115 pages but I didn’t see anything about this.
    Any help would be great.

    Bummer,
It appears the person that owned your reconditioned laptop before you set up an admin password in the BIOS.
I'm not sure how to clear this, but I imagine one of the boards many guru users know how.

I didn't bother to respond, not because I'm arrogant, but this is a common fix that I figured there would of been a tons of replies by now. BIOS information is very easy to clear one of three ways.

First, unplug and remove the battery from the notebook, turn the notebook over and look for a small hole about the size of a pin hole with an arrow pointing toward it, this is the rest button. Press and hold it for 30 seconds. I have no clue where it is on this notebook. If all else fails, call Gateway, there should be one darn button located somewhere very very simple that needs to be pushed (first one) that most notebooks have. They should throw you a friggen bone.

Second, remove the CMOS batter for 30 seconds, again remove notebook battery and unplug notebook. Turn it over and remove cover for CPU/RAM. Under the wifi card you'll see a black round thing that looks like it might be the battery. Unplug it from the mobo and wait 30 seconds, plug it back in and you should be good to go. This was the only thing I saw when took it apart that looked like it might be the CMOS battery, this supplies power to store the bios saved settings. Removing it resets the BIOS...hopefully.

Third, BIOS reset switch on the mobo, no idea where it is. Might involve taking the whole damn thing apart. Not recommended, good luck.

*EDIT* CHATTING WITH GATEWAY RIGHT NOW.

*EDIT2* If you guys want I can post the chat log here, fun times. To sum it up, he told me to do a factory restore, I told him that wouldn't work, he checked with his supervisory who told him the same thing, then double checked if I had a refurbed and decided he couldn't help me and gave me a phone number for their refurb center (1-866-243-1450) and I asked if they can help me free of charge and he said yes. After 39 minutes of being on hold I said screw them (I love 2-3k roll over minutes)!

Hm, 1 post. Well people place the passwords to protect the system if stolen. I would suggest you call and get your system registered and they,Gateway, can help you fix it. Even the manual tells you to contact them. Where are the MOD's..............

Some how "look before you leap" comes to mind right about now. Maybe I should of "read before I posted"...oh well. At least he didn't ask about disabling the LowJack on his 7811, that could of been embarrassing (not alot of people know this model has it build into its mobo).
