Gaming with Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M
I have heard alot of people saying that the Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M is not good for gaming, and that some games just simply do not support this card. Why is this? I know this card is optimized for things like CAD and that the Quadros are in general crap for games. But this card is built off the same design as the 7900gtx and performs in the same ballpark in 3dMarks.
3d mark 05: 8396 and 3d mark 06: 4673 for the Quadro.
Right now I am deciding on the Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M or the Geforce 7900gs.I currently have a good deal for the Quadro and I would like to know which is better gaming between the two, and what games will not work on the Quadro.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Gaming with Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M
Because it doesn't not support many gaming technology like lighting, shadowing, advanced shadering etc. However, it can play most games considering that there are a small number of games it can't play, if you are a cad, then you should get this card. It can game but not heavily.

Re: Gaming with Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M
The Quadro FX 2500M is a rebadgetd Go7900GTX. I'd take it over the Go7900GS because it will be a better performer. It seems like the latest generation of mobile Quadro cards are much better at games than the old ones.

I think they benchmark pretty high too. Yes they are optimized for cadd and such but they will also game.

Main rig: Dell precision m4600 - 2860QM, firepro 5950, 16GB 1600mhz RAM 9-9-9-28, WLED FDH+, Intel 520 240GB mSata OS, Seagate hybrid 750GB storage.

Re: Gaming with Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M
Thanks for your input, I think I will go with the quadro. But does anyone know what games will not work with it? I heard somewhere that a Ford Motor game wont work, but will games like fear, oblivion, guild wars, or civ 4 work on it?

Re: Gaming with Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M
Most games should work. What you won't get are continually updated drivers like you do with consumer-level cards, which oftentimes have work-arounds in them for specific games. So if a game doesn't work with the Quadro, don't expect a driver update to fix it necessarily. Trial and error are just about the only way to see if a game will run on it. That being said, most games should just run. I know my buddy has trouble with the water rendering in Halflife 2 with his Quadro. Fast as hell card, it just doesn't do game effects 100% all the time.

Re: Gaming with Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M
Yes, that is true; Ford Racing 3 does not work on the Quadro, the 1500M at least. It will install, and Fraps will show you getting 60fps most of the time, but for some reason it will just freeze for long periods of time throughout the game. F.E.A.R. works very well on the 1500M and even better on the 2500M. I run at 1440x900 res (finally modded for widescreen) with no AA (not necessary at native res) and 16xAF and get very good framerates all the time. Better than I was getting at 1024x768 with 4xAA. Like I said, this is just the 1500M, not the 2500M. I can't speak for Oblivion personally, but I haven't heard of any problems. The only game I've ever heard of having problems is the Ford Racing 3. You should also be aware that this was with the stock Dell drivers (I'm assuming you're looking at the M90) v84.29. You can get newer drivers from tweaks-r-us or laptopvideo2go that work fine with the Quadro. Actually, before my reformat, I had laptopvideo2go drivers v91.37 (maybe 91.33) and they worked quite well.
