Default Downloading Asus g73 Driver form Asus live update removed my graphics card?

When I started up my laptop for the 1st time, ASUS LIVE UPDATE appeared on the screen, showing BIOS and Drivers, so I downloaded it and to my surprise, my graphics card disappeared (Instead of NVIDIA GTX 560M 2G, it change to "Standard Graphics Adapter") and screen resolution went to a low 800x600 plus ang display specs ni worsened from 64 bit and 60 Hz to like 8 bit and 1 Hz. After many tries to resolve it and to no avail, I just did System Restore and everything went back to normal. WHY did that happen? My friend told me to update it from NVIDIA.com the latest driver there he thinks its Version 256.

Anyway the laptopcame with 2 CD's. First one is colored blue, "DRIVER AND UTILITY VERSIO 1.0 and the other one is "NOTEBOOK PC USERS DRIVER , DRIVER AND UTILITY VERSION 2" - Uhm should I install this and i yes which one?

    Drivers | GeForce

There are multiple driver releases you can download and try, just make sure it;s the verde drivers and not the desktop version. Your mileage will vary depending on what games you play etc as some releases are always better than others for certain apps.

I recommend checking the clean install box, and highly recommend tearing asus live update out of your OS and burning it with fire.

The concept of ALU is sound, however the implementation is not. Asus Live Update is a good way to screw things up. I know i sound like a broken record, but it can't be said enough times.

Check the stickies in the Asus forum, there's one on Asus bloatware if you want to read it, it'll tell you what every piece of Asus software does so you can remove what you don't need if you want and Asus sure loves bloatware.

Latest drivers straight from nvidia's website (aka the best place to get them): NVIDIA DRIVERS 301.42WHQL.

Bloatware is a term referring to software the laptop manufacturers put on their laptops that really doesn't do much aside from using resources. Asus live update is a good example of bloatware. What is considered bloatware by someone might not be by another individual. Another type of bloatware is preinstalled software trials. For example, my G73 came with a 30 trial of some paid anti-virus. Since i use Microsoft Security essentials, i didn't want it so i removed it from the laptop, same with the pre-installed games on my G73 as well as some other Asus software. Whether you want to remove pre-installed software or not and what you want to remove is entirely up to you.

Here's the guide i was talking about: Asus Utility and Bloatware Guide.

EDIT: We were all clueless about computers at one point in time, as long as you'Re willing to learn, this stuff will eventually come naturally to you.

Wow Tijo that was a fast reply. Another question, some guy in my other thread recommended that I download first the Asus Drivers first before the NVIDIA drivers so things will go smoothly , would you recommend that? heres the link he said ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G53SX

Should I do that first then after download the nvidia drivers?

Well, i'd make sure the basic drivers are up to date, chipset and ATK package. Then i'd proceed with the rest of the drivers in no particular order. Also check what version you have before downloading from the support site, it's possible you already have some of the latest versions.

The ATK package is responsible for the hotkeys and is also required for wireless console and power4gear.

Here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download ATK_package

As i said, it is the software responsible for making the fn hotkeys and some other asus software need it to work.

Thank you very much Tijo!!! Youre very big help!

Ok but before I do that something keeps popping out when I turn on my Laptop. Everytime I turn it on something pops up and says "You have not created a backup copy of your factory state
Windows. We strongly recommend that you make it now. Prepare black DVD+Rs or DVD-Rs."
Should I back it up first without installing the latest Asus G53sx drivers and latest NVIDIA Drivers?
