Re: What happen to diablo 3? Any real diablo fans here?
D3 might squeeze by as a passable dungeon crawler if it did not have to follow in D2's footsteps. The ENTIRETY of Diablo 3's gameplay is shallow and unimaginative when compared with its predecessor, especially the way in which casters spells scale (lol weapon damage?).
Nobody wanted D3 to suck, if you think that everyone is just "out to get Blizzard" then you might need to talk to a professional about some things in your life. Bottom line is D3 is a passable but subpar sequel due most likely to the massive change in development staff.

Putting not meeting expectation on a side, some aspects of D3 is not thought-out/incomplete which kind of make me feel meh.

Re: What happen to diablo 3? Any real diablo fans here?
I was a huge fan of D1 and D2. D3 lived up to my expectations.
Honestly I think nostalgia (and the new generation that loves to complain) plays a huge role in the disappointment many are feeling. D2 was for the most part 1 click spamfest but D3 is called 'shallow'. D2 had a nonexistant terrible story but suddenly it's 'epic' while D3 story is 'shallow and incomplete'. That and the whole thing about people complaining that level 60 was too small and they wanted a challenge... and then whining when Inferno wasn't just a 1 day speedrun like the other difficulties.
Objectively D3 isn't the greatest game ever, but neither was D2.

Re: What happen to diablo 3? Any real diablo fans here?
D3 needed to be bigger and longer, the artificial length of the game introduced via so many difficulties does not hide the lack of game. The constant gear checks thrown at you forcing you to grind content to move forward also does not make the game longer or more fun.
They should have allowed a natural but slow progression through the game with optional uber stuff for people to do if they grind out for the top gear.
The game plays pretty ok till Inferno then its just a joke, a tanking barbarian getting 3 shotted by zombies on the first act... I don't even think the gear goes high enough to proper tank the later acts. The only barbarians making it work are going for burst dps and burning cooldowns and waiting between battles.
The Wiz & DH are just in kite to fight mode but that seems to work better, atleast then you can embrace the fact you die in one hit and go for max damage and actually kill stuff.
I still play a lot, but what saddens me is that I know once I guy the right gear or get strong enough to kill inferno this game officially has nothing for me to do and I will never play it again other than maybe with friends as the content is almost non existent. There is so little out there for you to discover its the same quests, the same (bad) dialog, same everything over and over till you have the levels and gear to progress to do it all over some more.

Re: What happen to diablo 3? Any real diablo fans here?
Diablo 3 is basically a money grab by Blizzard. The basically came up with the idea to make a real money auction house, and then designed the game (specifically inferno) around the reality that you will have to use it to buy items to have a chance at progressing. And once the RMAH goes live, you can bet that the gold AH will become obsolete because everyone will be listing on the RMAH.

Re: What happen to diablo 3? Any real diablo fans here?
I feel like a lot of people miss the point of diablo 3 and what the creators intended it to be. I'll start off with d1, d2 and d3 comparison, if you guys have logged enough hours with the trilogy you'd understand that the other two incorporated MUCH more grinding for example
D1 farm or dupe items and kill the same mobs over and over again,
D2 kill diablo endlessly to no end for xp
Expansion: Baal runs to no end with pvp.
Diablos main difference to other games were the fact that it contained normal hell etc for that extra challenge and that's exactly what they did with d3. Would you rather have a game that's so linear you could beat the game within a week? No they made it so that you'd have to revisit old levels to get some items and to be honest in d3 the grinding is much less then any mmo I've played.
Secondly it's a sequel not a copy, why would you want to rehash d2 for another clone? So many new features are in d3 that meet and exceed expectations, such as skill combinations, gems (big time change), item revamp and end game content. People cried in d2 about how poor magic and rare items and now it affects so much more in d3, also they feature elite and rare mobs in d3 that are meant to also not make it linear so that when you go to face that boss you'd have some challenge, and twist and because of that I've never thought of the different levels as repetitive but familiar scene with a completely new content.
To be honest if your a true diablo fan that's played the series you'd understand how much more diablo 3 has to offer then it's predecessors.Macbook Retina 13" | i7 2.9 GHz | 8Gb RAM | 256 Gb SSD |

Re: What happen to diablo 3? Any real diablo fans here?
Here is my thought process when judging the game:
1. Not build base on D2 - fine.
2. Let see what it offers in term of "Diablo"
a. stat gone - fine.
b. skill/rune - any one with some clue should find at least half(maybe even 75%) of the skill is make up just to fill up space. They are fun to try for 3 minute then they become irrelevant with the game. (unless people want to torture themselves with useless skills)
c. item - resemble D1 - fine. But why put health globe/pick up radius in there?/ random stat show up on class specific item etc.
Itemization and stat mechanic is so simple it resemble a web-game I play before.
d. multiplayer/social - discouraged
e. replayability - some but not really, there is no exact goal or thing to achieve. When playing D2 or any mmo(or hell even rpgs), I think to my self "Ok I am building a xxx, thus I need to find/trade aaa item and bbb item to complete the build."
D3 character building mind set - more more more the better. There is no exact breakpoints/achievement.
Mindless killing mob is fine, but when the killing mob process is not fun, it doesn't work out.
and the list goes on.
The game itself doesn't worth $60 in 2012 standard.Last edited by baiii; 4th June 2012 at 01:58 AM.
