Diablo 3 performance on 2 similar laptops
Hey, so I have two laptops, an Acer 3820tg, and a Sony VAIO SA. The Acer has an i7-620m with a 5650m, while the Sony has an i7-2640m and 6630m. From testing most games and the specs, the Sony should have similar if not slightly better framerates at the same settings.
I've ran Diablo 3 on both, at the same settings and resolution. However, the Acer consistently has a higher framerate. Even on the menus, the Sony has maybe 50fps, while the Acer is closer to 70fps.
I checked everything I could think of, including trying various drivers, driver settings, power options, GPU usage and clockspeed. None of these did anything.
Does anyone think they know what the problem is?
Thanks.

The GPUs are just about the same performance.
Maybe the 2640m is throttling while the 620m doesnt. Sandy bridge have been plagued with throttling problems for some notebooks

Re: Diablo 3 performance on 2 similar laptops
I know for sure the problem is not throttling. All other games run fine, in line with what I expect. I just can't figure out what Diablo 3's problem with it is.

I'm not 100% sure, but iirc Sony underclocks the 6630m in the vaio s.

^ that is true.
SONY VAIO VPC-SA290X | i5-2520m | Radeon HD 6630m | 8GB DDR3 | 256GB Crucial M4 | 13.3" 1600x900 | USB 3.0
[HOW TO]
recover bundled applications (Adobe suite, PowerDVD, etc.) from SONY's hidden recovery partition
clone HDD to SSD with Symantec Ghost

Re: Diablo 3 performance on 2 similar laptops
Did you have to do anything to get D3 to 50fps on your Sony?
I have a Vaio SA with an i5, Radeon HD 6630M, and cannot get D3 to run well in Speed mode. My framerate drops to 10-20 whenever there is any action on the screen, and that is at the lowest settings. I grabbed Sony updated drivers, and even put the laptop in "Performance Mode" under the Sony Care settings, but nothing seems to help.
Thanks.
