The 7870 is a lot more efficient than the 7970 and since the 7970m is going to be a downclocked 7870, the gtx 680 vs hd 7970 comparison isn't really valid. The 7970m and 680m should be fairly even in terms of efficiency.

This is the smart view, and I couldn't agree more. Fanboys for red or green may miss the boat by being stubborn and narrow-minded. Better to be a fanboy for whatever holds the crown and ignore the color of the logo.

As I mentioned in another thread, "Whatever rocks the hardest and lives to tell about it wins." Until the new generation flagship mobile AMD and NVIDIA GPU are able to go head-to-head, the fat lady hasn't sung. The 7970M is amazing. Hopefully, AMD will do something better with their drivers. It's nice to see another sick option emerging in high-end mobile gaming graphics. NVIDIA is smart for holding back their 680M release and letting AMD set the performance bar. By letting AMD go first, they can lock their sights and carefully aim. Knowing how high to jump before taking the leap is a good strategy. Early adopters have been disappointed many times. Better to pause long enough to make a cold-hearted and calculated decision, then go for the head-shot. Only time will tell who the winner is going to be in this round.

As long as red and green keep exchanging blows, the GPU world will be an exciting place.

Who knows, AMD may have a better results on the mobile GPUs than Nvidia although Nvidia have better results with desktops. Atleast from the start. Maybe Nvidia come draging along with a "new" 485M later, and the history repeats itself.

Given that a 7970M is cheaper than the 675M, waiting for a 680M is kinda foolish at this point. Even if 680M matches the 7970M in performance, it's gunna cost a TON more.

A better questions would be: "Should I wait for a system which offers 7970M in Xfire?"

How much of this do you think is Nvidia's planning vs not being able to release much because of the problems with fabrication? I agree that they have time to counter the 7970m but if the rumors about the fab issues are true, they may miss their opportunity.

But the 680m may have better performance than the 7970m or might not cost much more. It's hard to tell at this point, which is why people are waiting.
