Yeah the 7970 xfire will give you a result as the 680M is vapour ware atm.

Re: AMD 7970m vs GTX 680m
At the date of me posting that, there was no official driver or app support. If you try and install the latest WHQL 12.4 catalyst, the 7970m isn't even recognized. What's worse is that if you try and do inf mods to that driver, it will not install.
HOWever, we have unofficial modded drivers that will work with the 7970m. You just don't get all the new feature support like Enduro
As the card gets released, i'm sure official beta support from AMD will be comingM17x R3 | i7 2820 | AMD 7970M | 12 GIGS DDR3-1333 | Crucial M4 SSD 128gig | 320 GIG 7200RPM | 1920x1080 60HZ | Sound Blaster X-FI usb

Re: AMD 7970m vs GTX 680m
That theoretical performance doesn't translate to game performance, which most of us should be interested in. The 580 beats the 7870 in all but one of the games AnandTech tested (at 1920x1200, the closest to 1080p).
That score is with tessellation off. With it on, it's 6847.

We've seen just shy of 7000 with it on.

Re: AMD 7970m vs GTX 680m
Yeah a quick look at two reviews shows that GTX 580 is better than 7870. Once you crank up the visual settings the 580 runs away from 7870.
I`d say it is a 10-15% difference in average between 580 and 7870. So who knows what GTX 580 vs 7870M difference is really...

Re: AMD 7970m vs GTX 680m
Guys does really matter if its on the edge of GTX 580 performance?
Thats not the whole point here.
The point is that this card can go beyond GTX 570 which imho is a wonderful card, while reaching ALMOST gtx 580 performance.
Giving how much the GTX 570 strong is, even with Crysis 2 and BF3, theres no point into arguing if it can tackle a GTX 580 here.
my previous desktop had a GTX 570 that was running at 850/2100 and i hadnt any problems into running BF3 with almost always 60fps even with PostAA to MAX and 2xAA.
Same with Witcher 2, which maxed out (no uber) saw nothing less than 60-55fps.
Crysis 2 at ULTRA was comfy around 60-58fps, being 53 the lowest.
If a desktop card in the likes of a GTX 570 can deliver that performance, then the HD7970m can go beyond it, reaching the 580. A good idea would be looking at GTX 570 performance and benchmarks then add around 2-5% more to get the ideaa.
First delusion for me is that current drivers dont like my main current game, Binary Domain.
On desktop 7970 and 7950 drops to 40fps without reason while my thrusty lil'old GTX 485m can max out the game and vsync it to 60fps without even raising clocks.
Not to mention that i was playing RAGE just fine before swapping my 570 for a 7970, while i cant now, not really well. Continues stuttering and fps dropping on a card that should outperform my old 570. Bah.
AMD drivers phail, its still the same old story.Last edited by Kingpinzero; 2nd May 2012 at 01:27 PM.

Re: AMD 7970m vs GTX 680m
Yeah, I'm no less impressed by the 7970M than anyone. Once voltage tweaking is possible, it should overclock past 1000Mhz which puts it very close to the 580. Crazy performance for a mobile GPU.
I just wanted to address HSN21's statement that the 7970M at stock performs like a 580.ASUS U81A-RX05 |

Re: AMD 7970m vs GTX 680m
Hey guys
I'm upgrading to a proper gaming laptop (I currently struggle like hell on a Phenom 2 N830 and an ATI HD 2450!)
Does anyone have an idea when the 7970 will be released on the Clevo? I'm tempted to go with Alienware, but I've heard that Dell can be a little patchy on drivers, and that you can't use 3rd party drivers?
I'm hoping it's going to be soon, I'm drooling!
