Maybe it's just me, but I had some difficult times trying to figure out which items to purchase. In LoL, the items are categorized by attributes so as a beginner, I could figure out which to buy. Maybe I need more practice in Dota2

Go with the recommended initial and mid game items in the shop for your hero and for the situational items , you can ask your team members for recommendations.

Blood seeker is arguably one of the best mid heroes if not invoker. Make sure you get a hatchet on him, level your bloodbath and deny and you will be able to lane like forever. Also since he is a ganking hero, make sure you always carry a scroll of tp for that easy kill(when someone tower dives) in the side lanes.

Blood seeker is am awful mid if you are up against anyone somewhat aggressive. Any ranged hero will hit you 3-4 times when you go in for a last hit, deny. Seeing as mid is an aggressive lane, you'll get that a lot.

Err, m not sure if you are serious but you aint been playin much if you say bs is an awful mid. A bs with hatchet and shield can easily mid and own especially if he is good at last hitting.

Sure, the enemy ranged hero can hit you but your bloodbath makes sure that you keep replenishing hp while your creeps keep hitting the enemy for aggro. So basically you keep getting most of the cs (Creep score).

I think it depends on the enemy he is facing in mid lane. Example of this maybe going against Lich, Tinker and Destroyer. It would be hard just to rely without an AOE damage skill like Beastmaster's Wild Axe in order to pull creeps to you even further than your own tower (so that the creeps will follow you and will not attack your tier 1 tower, and the enemy hero can't push either as well).
