Can My Notebook Run It? How does X Graphics Card Compare?
last updated: 27 AUG 2010
If you'd like to know if your notebook can run a game, this is the right place!
Some things to note before you post:- Integrated video cards are NOT meant for gaming. Don't expect much from them.
- This thread is also meant to ask for laptops that you don't own yet, but would like to know how they will perform
In order to determine if you computer can run a certain game we need your specs. Please provide the following in either your post or signature:
--Start Example--
CPU:
GPU:
RAM:
Display (resolution):
--End Example--
Under "Display", please make sure to indicate your native resolution.
Also, make sure to let us know specifically what games you would like to play. You can ask a more direct question such as "Can I run this game at high settings?", or a more general question like "At what settings can I run this game?". We'll do our best to help.
And that's it! Your final post should look something like this:

Radeon 5730 enough?
Hey all-
I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I can get a pretty good deal on a Dell Studio XPS 16 machine... right around $1500 for:
CPU: Core i7-720QM (1.6GHz)
GPU: Mobility Radeon HD 5730 (1GB)
Memory: 6GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
Screen: 1920x1080 Native
Do you think the 5730 would be enough to run games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Starcraft 2 when it comes out at mid-high settings? I like gaming but I've never been a huge stickler for perfect graphics etc. I can hold out and look for a better graphics card but that machine is pretty tasty for $1500...
Let me know what you think!
Thanks,
JD

Re: Radeon 5730 enough?
If you plan to play at such native resolution the card might fall a little short on performance.

Re: Radeon 5730 enough?
Something like Newegg.com - MSI GX740-079US NoteBook Intel Core i7 720QM(1.60GHz) 17.0" Wide SXGA+ 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 is gonna go alot further then the dell in terms of gaming. Granted smaller native res and a little less ram but thats easily upgradeable.

Re: Radeon 5730 enough?
Interesting... How's the build quality on MSI machines? I've never actually seen/messed with one in person. I'm also really trying to stick with a 15-16"... any thoughts?

Re: Radeon 5730 enough?
teh MSI GX740 is a great deal but ur better off with an Asus G73 or Sager NP8760.. the Asus G73 is actually quite good build quality and runs quite quiet.. Sager has great case and excellent cooling but runs loud... but overall IMO , G73 is better because of great ram expansion (up to 16GB ) better audio system etc..

I started a new thread - the old one was over 2000 posts; generally we close threads that large because they can affect server performance.
Link to old thread:
**Can My Notebook Run It?** - Ask about your notebooks here
I have also amended the title of this thread to reflect that it should contain all "X graphics card vs Y" comparisons.
Thanks for your patience.NotebookReview Writer & Reviewer

Hey guys, how well (if at all) can I run starcraft 2?
dell xps m1530
2.4 core 2 duo ghz
4 gigs ram
NVIDIA 8600m GT (I think its 256 mb)
1680x1050 native res
thanks!
EDIT: I'm not TOO concerned about the quality of graphics, as long as everything looks decent. I just don't want to find myself losing fps during big fights and such
