Will Vidock 4 power the laptop display? Or is external still needed? Apologies if it has already been mentioned

From what I understand the vidock4 will need an external screen.
basically the vidock4 will allow more powerfull cards.

there is another Vidock thread in this forum which expains it all many times over.

Exactly. Along with some more docking station like features (networking, USB, sound)

I would be sceptical about adding stuff that takes away the precious EC bandwidth ;-)

If we had a graph, say from a desktop PC, showing the amount of data transfered trhough PCI-E to the GPU on one axis and time on the other axis, for example for a half-hour playthrough of Crysis or other game, that would give us a really good overview on how the game would perform with ViDock.
not so much. that would just show us how much information is getting passed around, but it really gives us no measurement of how performance will change when we restrict it.

for that, we can use benchmarks (already provided to us by Steiner), and if we want, we can compare them to standard 4650 benchmarks to see how performance changes.

Would getting the vidock to power the laptop screen need a hardware revision of the vidock, or would it just be a software thing?

it would need a hardware revision of the ViDock, designed for a different type of laptop specifically built to be able to drive the laptop's display externally.

I recall paladin saying that this feature should be possible with ATI in the future with the current hardware

Not certain there - I thought Paladin said that ATI cards should work with this pretty soon.

Seems to me that if you can make the machine understand that there is another video card available, it could setup some sort of crossfire....

sweet. i thought it was if you had an amd ati combo set up though, not just ati. if its just an ati card, SWEET! I never heard any sort of crossfire thing either. From what i hear, the laptop's gpu "disapears" to the computer. then again, who am i to know? :P if you right, that is sweet.
