Re: [Free Tool] NV GPU Pro for Nvidia graphic cards
This is how Vista works (it should be the same for Win7). If Aero is turned on the OS interface (meaning desktop, wallpaper, window effects, windows boarders) are all rendered by the GPU, however, the content of
each window is the decision of the application (so application, in general, will use the CPU, and games GPU). I don't think your problem has to do with the video card at this point.
Do what HerrKaputt suggested, they is a lot of post on it. You can't miss them! they are right there are the entrance of the Dell Latitude forum section. I am part of the lucky ones without this issue, so I did not focus on this.My projects:Nv GPU Tweak Tool - The best tweak tool for Nvidia GPU's..

Re: [Free Tool] NV GPU Pro for Nvidia graphic cards
Thanks for the reply guys. I've read everything there is to read on the net about these issues..
It seems that the main problem was all the visual effects. It's a golden rule of audio optimizing a Windows PC that you turn it all OFF! I was just being naive and thinking that with a dedicated graphics card that wouldn't be necessary. Silly me.
So if the application running in the window is the one using CPU power rendering it, no wonder there is spikes. How come it's designed this way? Doesn't it make more sense letting the GPU handle all this?

Re: [Free Tool] NV GPU Pro for Nvidia graphic cards
Although I do not dislike Vista, I think Ubuntu (and probably Linux in general) are better optimized in this regard. I use Ubuntu at work and my girlfriend also has it on her laptop, and you can put all the fancy graphic effects you want (even on an old ATI Mobility Radeon 9600) and the laptop will handle them with no sweat.
You might want to try Ubuntu to see if it helps you in your work. Assuming the software tools you use can be used in Ubuntu, which I doubt...
Some users also report that XP has no such issues, although others say XP and Vista have the same problems. You can try XP, it doesn't hurt...Dell Latitude E6400 | P8600 2.40 GHz | Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M | 4GB RAM | 250 GB 7200 rpm | 1440x900 LED | Intel 5300 | Win 7 Pro 64 Bit

Re: [Free Tool] NV GPU Pro for Nvidia graphic cards
I have XP on dual boot. And audio runs ok. The latency is a bit too high for my liking. And strange things also happen in XP: when there's heavy disk activity the latency is halved. This is running in AHCI mode with IMSM driver 8.8. I've also tried XP in ATA mode and that was probably the most reliable. But I was annoyed that I couldn't use my eSATA port for my external drive. So when 8.8 was released i reinstalled in AHCI mode.
I don't think Ubuntu will work with my audio apps unfortunately... it would be nice if they did though.

Re: [Free Tool] NV GPU Pro for Nvidia graphic cards
My software does not do the work. It is your video card drivers that does it.
If you disable this feature and PowerMizer as well, it should not downclock at all. However, the GPU chip itself (so I can't do anything) might have an emergency mechanism to prevent any damage or melting due to overheating.
Make sure you monitor your GPU temps when you disable this one... I don't want you to end up with a broken GPU.My projects:Nv GPU Tweak Tool - The best tweak tool for Nvidia GPU's..

Re: [Free Tool] NV GPU Pro for Nvidia graphic cards
Again it depends on your GPU, GPU drivers and if you are on a desktop or laptop.
For instance, if you are on a desktop computer it is normal that you can't enable powermizer when you are under battery.
I never tried forcing a setting in... be that usually is never good, or would simply do nothing as the drivers or GPU would just ignore it. The idea of this tool is to not have options that don't work, or screw up your system.
If you really want to force enable these features, PM me and I'll give your a reg file to do so. And my application will then have all the options enabled.
If anyone comes with good conclusion, then I'll release a new version which an option to force these disabled settings to be changed. My projects:Nv GPU Tweak Tool - The best tweak tool for Nvidia GPU's..
