Default how to overclock geforce go6150? (if possible)

^^ cause i just purchased 2gb of ram and i have not seen any big difference in gaming or software, just the load times. it did get rid of the MOST of the lag but it is still there, and since you cant upgrade the gpu is it possible to overclock? and how, to a safe level? and what exactly does overclocking do to notebooks? drain battery prolly? and so on.... any down sides?

I have overclocked my X200M to about 150% from 200Mhz to 492Mhz without any issues and I have heard of people doing it with 6100s and 6150s so it is possible.

It does shorten battery life somewhat, and it can damage your hardware through overheating, but this is not as likely as some people make it out to be.

There are two steps you can take to reduce overheating, first is to open up your machine and replace the thermal paste with a good quality one like Arctic Silver AS5, the second is to overclock using a software profile which you load only when playing games.

I should think Riva Tuner would be a good bet for what you want to do:

Also google tweak guides for the game you want to play (tweaktown is quite good) so you can get them running as well optimized as possible.

I actually installed ATITool on my mothers (hehe) HP laptop and it has the Go6150. I didn't have much time to mess with it though.

yeah im thinking im going to go with the second idea, with riva tuner. but wait, whats the difference between the other type of software other people use, coolbits? also what settings are safe? also the tweak town thing, what is it? cause when i google it the first ting that shows up is something like gaming.tweaktown.com but it shows all this other stuff like power suplies and other software.

Sorry tweaktown was a typo, I meant tweakguides:
http://www.tweakguides.com/

Rivatuner has far more options than coolbits. Here is quite a good guide for Riva Tuner:
http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=56017

You can't really damage anything short term (high clocks alone can do damage but generally only over a significant period of time), merely playing about with a software OC tool the worst that will happen is that you have to restart your machine. It is hard to say exactly what is and isn't safe for any given GPU.

However to significantly reduce the risk of damage, only overclock when you are running games, you can create different Rivatuner profiles to load at different times.

Ideally you want to monitor the temperature of the GPU (I'm not sure if the 6150 supports software temperature monitoring).
