Re: Is Hunger Games worth seeing?
Well htwing I know you're more of an action movie guy from what I've seen and well, just don't expect Hunger Games to be one. While there is a small action portion to it, the books and the movies are both aimed at a PG audience. Gore is kept to a minimum (aka almost non-existent even compared to the books) and there's some slow bits.
I wouldn't call Hunger Games an "action movie" although I did find it entertaining (I read the books btw). Like ktech said, if you just want an entertaining flick with at least a decent storyline then yes it's worth 6$ (which is pretty damn cheap btw
)

Re: Is Hunger Games worth seeing?
Kinda reminds of a "Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe" type of movie. Which I found mildly entertaining. But maybe it's nothing like that. I just don't want to be bored out of my mind and waste three hours of freedom.

Re: Is Hunger Games worth seeing?
My only real complaint with "Hunger Games" is the camera work. Sometimes it's used to good effect (the hallucination bit was well done) but there are times when it reminds me too much of "The Blair Witch Project" - and that's not meant as a compliment. The shoddy camera work can obscure the action at the worst of times.
Haven't read the books, but I think the movie had a good, albeit simple, plot and did well fleshing it out. It's interesting how the buildup to the actual "Hunger Games" has obvious effects but the event itself is for the most part very naturalistic. My two cents

Re: Is Hunger Games worth seeing?
Despite protesting to my wife that I wouldn't like them, I finally sat down to read the books in February.
I read all 3 books in a week.... I devoured them.
The movie, after reading the books, was about a 7/10 for me. Had I not read them, probably 8.5/10.
Definitely worth seeing for $5. I really enjoyed it - in fact, tried to be young again and went to the midnight premiere of the movie. I paid for that by being real fuzzy the next day at work.

Re: Is Hunger Games worth seeing?
I greatly enjoyed the books and the movie. For me, part of the interest in seeing a movie after the book is to see if they can capture the true spirit of the book given the limitations of a movie. I thought they did a great job of turning this book into an entertaining movie without betraying anything of significance int the book.

Re: Is Hunger Games worth seeing?
Hunger games is no Twilight.
It IS targetted at young women and thus many of the plot devices and scenes are focused less on action and more about how the main characters feel. The main heroine also has a man on each arm and the classic love triangle thing.
Neither of these two more female-oriented things make it a bad movie, the male characters still act like men and relationships between men and women are more realistic as well. This is a stark difference from twilight where all of the characters act like teenage girls. (even if they are played by male actors)
The plot of Hunger Games has a much deeper political concept and foreshadows coming political events.
It also helps that the cast of Hunger games actually can act, that the main actress is surprisingly good, and that the main heroine is someone I'd actually like a date or a daughter to emulate in thought and action.
(The female lead character in Twilight is a wet noodle of a person.)
The camera "work" really does get old... but the story, plot, and characters saves it IMHO.
Im 37, and couldn't stand to watch Twilight for longer than 30-40 minutes without needing to turn it off.
I watched all 2hours20min+ of Hunger Games barely noticing the passing of time.
I'd give it 3-3.5stars out of 5.
Twilight doesn't deserve a half-star as the acting and story and characters are worse and less realistic than "Debbie-does-Dallas".ASUS G50VT (Since 11/2/2008)

Re: Is Hunger Games worth seeing?
Saw it. Liked it. Was infatuated with Jennifer Lawrence, wow she's beautiful, but more importantly (kinda) is she can act. Very good acting all around. It was a good movie. Some things were a bit contrived, forced, and out of place. But for the most part a good movie.
I don't want to say too much more to ruin it. Reminded me of The Truman Show coupled with Lord of the Flies. Would have been better as PG-13 or R even to make it a bit more dark. The out of the blue romance was very eye-rolling worthy though.
But the 2hrs 20 mins of it were intriguing from beginning to end, and never got bored once. So for that I give it a bonafide bonus.
My take, 8/10. Definitely worth 2.5 hours of your time and $10. Ticket was only $5 for me.
Thanks to everyone who encouraged it. Unless I get another opportune off-site meeting day like this, I'm gonna have to take a half-day vacation for Avengers. If I only see one other movie this year at the theaters, that will be the one.

Glad you liked it.
One literal highlight of the movie for me was Lenny Kravitz's gold eyeshadow. Seriously.
