The Great Religion Debate Thread!
Since other threads have been ending up on getting essentially off topic and ending up in a religious debate, I thought it would be a great idea to just start a thread dedicated to just that topic.
So far the debates have been reasonably friendly and mature, so lets make sure that we keep it that way here.
Important Guidelines:
Please follow forum rules, which would include not making any personal attacks on anyone, or putting anyone down for any reason. No racism, which of course includes no antisemitism.
Please refrain form making strictly inflammatory and provocative statements, as this has already been an issue with some posters, and is unacceptable here. Do not defeat the language filter, it's there for a reason.
We have intriguing and lively debaters here on this topic, so lets all enjoy and have some fun.
Everyone please behave themselves, and don't let your emotions get the best of you. Let's keep it nice and friendly, like a discussion between friends, as it should be. Let's keep it nice and civilized.
Please don't do anything that would cause posts to be deleted, or worse yet cause this thread to be closed. Lets all behave ourselves and show the mods that we can do this right. They haven't had to step in our other debates on this topic so far, so let's not give them a reason to have to do so here.
This thread is an open discussion about religion, and religious issues. Science discussion is allowed so far as it relates to religious debate, but science should not become the sole subject of the debate in and of itself.
What do you have to say?
Are you up to the task?Last edited by scooberdoober; 23rd April 2008 at 06:14 PM.

Re: The Great Religion Debate Thread!
I'll state were I'm coming from right from the get go. I am a Christian, not in the organized religion sense, but in a personal sense. I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, and that the Bible is beneficial for teaching, instruction, and correction. Also that God's word and His only begotten Son Jesus Christ are the highest ideals know to mankind. I also believe that all peoples, of every nationality and ethnic background are all equal in the sight of God, including male and female, so we are all equal. I do not believe in many races but one, and that is the human race; we are all of one race, one people, from one couple, the two called Adam and Eve, from which we are all descendants. We may have different skin tones and such, but we are all the same people inside and out. We were all created in the image of God. So we are all created equal in the sight of God, and He loves us all the same, and wants only the best for us and our lives.
May the Great Religion Debate begin!Last edited by scooberdoober; 4th April 2008 at 12:04 AM.

Is that why he created AIDS and diseases because he wants the best for our lives?
Is that why lets 5 million+++ children under the age of 5 DIE FROM STARVATION each year?
Because he wants the best for our lives.... yeah right.....

Maybe we should copy paste most of the recent posts in the other threads to this thread. Otherwise they will still be posting on the other threads

Well, think about it this way...what is a hike to the top of a mountain like? Its a tough way up, its challenging, many times you just want to quit, but in the end, when you make it, you're rewarded. You've accomplished a major feat, you're seeing a landscape that you otherwise would not have gotten the chance to see. So it takes work to be rewarded.
In the same way, could AIDS and humanitarian crises not be the challenges that humankind needs to bear? Is this not like trying to reach the top of the mountain, to overcome this challenge, so we may be rewarded (to ascend to heaven)?
Just an analogy

I just love statements like these, and welcome to The Great Religion Debate Thread!
Those things are all the result of man's own sins, not God's doing!

Honestly I think that would be great, but it would take a very patient mod to make such a move.
